LANDSCAPE
MAINTENANCE
So many people tend to say
“I really don’t have time to
keep my yards fixed” or “it’s
not worth what I have to pay
someone to keep my yard
neat and attractive.” If the
landscaping around your
home is such a big task that it
is neglected or becomes
expensive Millard Daniel,
Butts County Extension
Agent, recommends that you
try some of these ideas for
reducing maintenance:
-Simplify your landscape
design and eliminate difficult
to grow plants.
-Reduce amount of pruning
by eliminating hedges that
need to be clipped. Why not
try using informal borders,
fences or walls?
-Avoid odd shaped beds in
lawn areas because these
sometime make mowing
difficult. Place flower beds
against walls or fences.
-Use ground cover in shady
areas instead of grass. This
will reduce mowing area.
-The use of flowering trees
and shrubs instead of

I,FT GOD DO THE HOEING
"Without me ye can do
nothing.” (John 15:5) Do
you really have a desire to
put your life in the hands of
God? Well, suppose the next
time you pick up a garden
hoe. a strange thing happens,
and the hoe starts digging all
by itself! Great, except for
one thing. The hoe has no
self-control. Unless you guide
it. it will chop down half of
your garden. To do its best
work, the hoe must be in
hands. Likewise we are
powerless to live for God and
serve Him effectively unless
He guides us all the time.
How may one put himself
completely into God’s hands?
Simply by saying (with
conviction) “I can't, Lord,
but you can."
Jesus said. "Without me ye
can do nothing." It was Paul
who said, "I can do all things
through Christ which
strengtheneth me.” (Phil.
4:13)

Many lives crash every day

a driver. This is where God
comes in. When He is in
complete control of one’s life
the crash is averted.

Another unusual situation
at Deer Trail Golf Club. For
the most part golfers don’t
like to play alone and
occasionally that occurs.
However once in a while two
singles will meet and get
together for a twosome.
I felt this twosome de
served a little extra recogni
tion. One of the members,
goes to a doctor, he places
himself in his hands; takes
the medication he pre
scribes, and yields to his
hands in surgery? Thus one
is completely yielded to the
doctor.
So. the admonition to one
who is not so yielded is
simple, but direct. Yield your
life to God: Admit that you
are incapable of steering
your own life and yield
yourself to His control. Let
Him be the driver. Don’t do
anything until you have
sought God’s opinion and
listened for His reply.
In Eph. 5:18 we learn that

So, Harry Reeves intro

Probably Right
A young man just out of
school got a job in a bank.
The first day he was there,
the cashier tossed him a
package of bills. “Count
these and see if there are
100.” was the order. The new
employee started counting.
He reached 75, stopped
counting and threw the
package into a drawer. “If
it's right this far. it's prob
ably right all the way.” was
his reasoning.

Weather Reporter
Since the first of the
month is close to the weekly
paper this report is being
prepared on the 30th day of
the month and should
anything unusual happen
during the final day it will be
included in the June weather
report.
Hot and dry was the
weather picture for the most
part of May, but, my friends,
since most of our memories
are so short lived I shall
refresh yours back to the
year 1962. You see, in May,
1962, the entire month
produced only .35 of an inch
of rain, therefore it wasn’t at
all that bad this year.
Relief from the drought
finally came on the 20th day
of the month when here at
Deer Trail we measured four
tenths of an inch, which,
under the circumstances, did
help some. However the real
suspense felt relief on the
three day period beginning
May 24th when a total of 1.02
inches fell. That, added to the
four tenths earlier gave us
1.42 for the month. That was
compared to 11.10 inches in
May last year. End of May
’76, we had 29.56 inches.
Our total for the year thus
far is 18.35 excluding the last
day. Lloyd Shoals reported
2.41 for the month and 25.40
for the year. Looking back at
records of an unusual nature
I find that on May 4th, 1971, it
was 38 degrees with a frost.
On the 18th of May, 1972, it
was 85 degrees at five p.m.
the following day it was 62 at
five p.m. Several days this
month. May 1977, we reached
the 90 degree mark and on
one occasion, May 16, some
places in the area recorded a
95.
