CETA Has Counseling For Staff The three most recent counseling sessions for CETA workers in Butts County have featured Jimmy Head who spoke on young people and the law and Bertha M. White who talked about family planning. At the most recent counsel ing session, George Tate spoke about personality and attitude as they apply to job success. Jimmy Head is a recent graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law. Mr. Head talked with the group of young people about various offenses and their consequences. He also advised them of the various formalities involved in a business deal such as the purchase of a car. Bertha M. White was the featured speaker at the session on July 1. Mrs. White’s presentation dealt mainly with different methods of birth control. However, she also talked about the importance of planning and preparing for a family. At the most recent session, George Tate, principal of Jackson High School, spoke to the workers about attitude and personality as they relate to success in a job. In his speech, Mr. Tate emphasized relating to others in a job situation and he spoke of mastering one’s personality. The counseling sessions are conducted every Friday afternoon in the lunchroom at Jackson High School. IOP Group Held Meeting In Macon The Intensive Office Pro cedures coordinators of Georgia recently held their third annual conference in Macon at the Ramada Inn. Sandra Brooks, of Jackson High School, was present to learn of new procedures and ideas that will be initiated into the program during the coming year. IOP is one of Georgia’s newest programs in business education. In the Intensive Office Program, the Advanced Typing and Office Practice courses are integrated; and a simulated office closely resembling a real office operates in the lab. Students are interviewed for specific jobs such as secretary, receptionist, office manager, and bookkeeper. When hired, the students operate the office—handling incoming mail, preparing outgoing mail, greeting visi tors, expediting orders, as well as performing other office functions. Each work er receives a “paycheck” that reflects the type of job held and the quality of work performed. Special guest speakers for the conference included Mrs. Ann Warren of Cleveland, Tennessee who is co-author of a simulated office, “Serendipity,” and Dr. Lloyd Brooks of Memphis State University, an authority in the field of simulation in the classroom. CARD OF THANKS I wish to express my sincere appreciation and grateful thanks to all those friends who remembered me with flowers, visits, trays, prayers, and other kind nesses while I was confined to the hospital, as well as since I have returned home. May God bless each and every one of you.—Nell James.
