Methodist Church
A beloved Psalm is the
119th in which the Psalmist
proclaims those eternal
words of truth - “Thy word is
a lamp unto my feet, and a
light unto my path.’’ (vs. 105)
In these days when truth
seems to be becoming
dimmer, this message from
the Holy Scripture has all the
more meaning to us.
Someone has said, “He
who carries a lantern on a
dark road at night sees only
one step ahead. When he
takes that one, the lamp
moves forward and another
is made plain. He finally
reaches his destination in
safety without once walking
in darkness. All the way is
lighted, but only a single step
at a time. This is the method
of God’s guidance.” How true
this is, and from personal
experience many can testify
to the truthfulness of this
observation.
Having received the Lord
Jesus as Savior, the Chris
tian knows where he is going
and is assured of his safe
arrival. The dark shroud of
the unknown, however, veils
the pilgrim pathway. It is
this, along with the contem
plation of possible pitfalls,
lurking dangers, and tragic
missteps, that often upsets
the weary traveler and robs
him of the peace and
confidence the Lord intended
him to enjoy. But as the child
of God refuses to worry about
tomorrow and trusts Him for
today, he finds grace and
guidance for each step of the
way.
In Proverbs we find the
same good advice - “In all
thy ways acknowledge him,
and he shall direct thy paths”
(3:6). Elsewhere in the
Psalms, the message is the
same - “I (God) will guide
thee with mine eye.” Indeed,
even as a lantern illuminates
each new step on the dark
road at night, so the lamp of
God’s Word is a light upon
your pathway. As His, we
need but follow as He leads.

MONEY SAVERS
- MARINADES can turn an
inexpensive cut of meat into
a gourmet’s delight. Mari
nades spread flavor through
out a piece of meat.
Marinades contain varied
amounts of seasoning, an
acid and sometimes oil. You
should allow approximately
1 2 cup of marinade for every
pound of food to be
immersed. Refrigerate any
food to be marinated one
hour or more in order to
prevent bacterial growth.
- APPLE PEELINGS AND
CORES cut from apples you
are canning or freezing can
be salvaged for jelly. Be sure
to wash apples before
preparing and discard only
bad spots cut from apples.
Add a small amount of water
to the peeling and cores and
cook until tender. Strain
through a jelly bag and use
the juice obtained to make
apple jelly.
- LEFTOVER RICE can be
used in rice pudding,
casseroles, soups and salads.
Try using it as an extender
with ground beef in hambur
gers and meatloaf.
- NONFAT DRY MILK
offers great possibility for
saving costs. To cook with
dry milk just add the powder
to the dry ingredients and
add water equal to the
amount of milk specified in
the recipe. Also if you run
short of regular milk you can
mix equal parts of reconsti
tuted nonfat dry milk with
regular milk for an accept
able drinking product.
- WATERMELON RINDS
can be used to make spiced
watermelon, watermelon
preserves, or watermelon
pickles.
- NEW POTATOES can be
scraped instead of peeled in
order to save as much of the
potato as possible.
- LEFTOVER BISCUITS
AND MUFFINS can be split,
buttered and toasted. Try
sprinkling with sugar and
cinnamon or garlic salt or
parmesan cheese before
toasting.
- CANNED BISCUITS can
be deep-fried to make hot
