By Dale Whiten “What can I do if it kills me—at least I’ll die with a smile on my face.” He was speaking of all the delicious food he was taking in—roast beef, a variety of vegetables and tall glasses of ice tea. He was surrounded by relatives—relatives by mar riage-some of them appear ing to hang on to every word he said or unconsciously staring at the movie star who actually came to dinner. This was Jan Murray, and he was obviously enjoying all the “delicious Southern cook ing” of Mrs. James Moore when Murray and his family came to Mrs. Moore’s home Monday evening for dinner. He was easily recognizable among all the other guests and relatives seated at the long table on the front porch, and even though you’d remember him for the many roles he’s been in, the conversation seldom drifted in that direction—only if prompted. Instead Murray talked about the things he and his family had done Monday— his day off from work. They had been to Monte zuma, his wife’s hometown. The lovely Mrs. Murray was formerly Kathleen Mann and is the niece of Mrs. Moore. She and Murray have been married 28 years and have three children, two girls and a boy. Murray thinks his wife has an incredible memory and he said when they arrived in Montezuma, he was amazed how well she could remem ber obscure details of the town which had changed considerably but which also had a lot of reminders of the past—like the barber shop which belonged to Mrs. Murray’s father and which is still standing. Murray had finished the roast beef and vegetables and eagerly began dessert with large slices of pound cake and still commenting on how delicious the food was. “You know I generally live on salads, fruits, fish—that kind of food—and no fats, no sweets, so this is really a big feast for me,” Murray quipped. But the feast was almost over and Murray’s day off from work would soon come to an end. He was going back to Atlanta (this is the first time he’s been there) where he is starring in “You Know I Can’t Hear You When the Water’s Running” at the Midnight Sun Dinner The atre. The show opened last week, and Murray said extremely good crowds have been turning out for the performances. The play is, of course, a comedy and will be at the Midnight Sun until August 28. Murray said his show business career goes back about 35 years and that he was one of the “pioneers” in television. He was the host of one of the first game shows on TV—Dollar a Second and he was also the star of the popular show Treasure Hunt. In addition, Murray has been in several dramatic shows including the long running television series Dr. Kildare and last year starred in Jigsaw John. His dramatic roles also include several Broadway plays two of which were “The Odd Couple” and /^VALVOUNE^ tfj All Climate # $12.95 | M QUAKER STATE M Vplk All Season \|R9|/ HELP WANTED If you are retired, energetic, like to meet people and are interested in part time employment please call Lou Moel chert, Jackson True Value Hardware, 775-3000.
