Local Track
Driver Enters
Nat’l. Roadeo
Thomas R. McKinnon, of
310 West Avenue, Jackson, a
truck driver for Overnite
Transportation Cos., Atlanta,
will compete for top honors
and a SI,OOO grand prize in
the American Trucking Asso
ciations’ National Truck
Roadeo, Aug. 25-27 in Kansas
City.
McKinnon is a 12 year
veteran of the highways and
has driven thousands of
miles without an accident.
McKinnon qualified by
taking first place in the
five-axle tractor semitrailer
competition at the Georgia
state truck roadeo last July
in Atlanta.
He will compete for a
national title at the H. Roe
Bartle Convention Center
along with five other Georgia
drivers.
Some 234 professional
drivers representing 40
states will participate in the
National roadeo. Like Mc-
Kinnon, they became eligible
by winning their respective
state roadeos. All have at
least one year of accident
free driving to their credit,
and most have impressive
records which span many
years of safe driving.
Competition at the Nation
al Truck Roadeo is based on
the skill and knowledge
required of professional
drivers in their daily work.
Contestants are judged on
the results of a personal
interview*, a written exam
ination, and their ability to
negotiate a driving course
which simulates conditions
they encounter every day on
the road.
The Nazarene
Church to Show
Film Sunday
The story is old, but the
perspective is up-dated and
brought into sharp focus by
the film, “The Gospel Road”,
to be shown on Sunday,
August 14th, at the Jackson
Church of the Nazarene. The
showing will begin at 6:00
p.m.
The Gospel Road was
conceived and produced by
Johnny Cash and his wife,
June Carter Cash, whose
desire was to tell the story of
Jesus Christ in a realistic and
meaningful way.
The film is a unique blend
of scripture-based narrative,
an abundant supply of
specially written songs, and
a series of in-depth character
portrayals, with Israel itself
as the mixing bowl.
You are there, walking
beside the Jordan and the
Sea of Galilee; you are there,
seeing Him in many human
situations that establish a
practical and personal rap
port with every viewer.
