Miss Sara Ellen Powell Is Wed
To Manuel Gordon Cook
On Saturday, July 23, Miss
Sara Ellen Powell, became
the bride of Manuel Gordon
Cook of Jackson, Georgia, in
the First Baptist Church of
Jackson. Parents of the bride
are Mr. and Mrs. Chester
Powell of Milan and her
grandparents are Mrs. Sara
A. Pitts of Jacksonville,
Florida, and the late Mr. and
Mrs. Emory Powell of Milan.
The groom is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Manuel Roy Cook of
Jackson and the grandson of
the late Mr. and Mrs. D. G.
Hyde Senior of Atlanta and
the late Mr. M. H. Cook and
Lorene Cook of Atlanta.
The bride, given in
marriage by her father, wore
a gown of white chiffon. The
bodice was of net and lace
and the skirt flowed to the
floor in a train. Net attached
to a crown of lace served as a
veil. A cascade of white
orchids accented with baby’s
breath made up her bouquet.
The bride’s attendants
included Miss Patricia Cook
of Baxley and Miss Priscilla
Gambino of Atlanta. The
sister of the bride, Mrs.
Hester Lockerman, was
Matron of Honor. The flower
girls were daughter of the
groom, Sandra Carol Cook
Tea Honors Miss Pinckney,
Popular Bride-Elect
Friends and relatives en
joyed an afternoon tea on
August 10 at the lovely and
spacious home of Dr. and
Mrs. Bailey Crockarell in
honor of Ms. Ellen Pinckney,
popular bride-elect.
Mrs. Clara Weldon of
Milner, grandmother of the
bride-elect, joined Ms. Pinck
ney and her mother, Mrs. R.
H. Pinckney, in the receiving
line. Hostesses presented Ms.
Pinckney with a corsage of
daisies to complement her
lovely blue and white long
dress.
Guests enjoyed a variety of
sandwiches, sweets, fruits
and punch served from the
dining table which featured
an arrangement of beautiful
roses grown by Mrs. Otis
Weaver. Presiding at the
punch bowl were Mrs.
Charlene Wise and Ms.
Virginia Watkins. Ms. Janet
Cook kept the guest book.
Out-of-town guests in
cluded Mrs. Paul Rice, of
Griffin; Mrs. Kent Kingsley,
Barnesville; Mrs. Julian
Weldon, Misses Jane and
Jeanie Weldon, Mrs. Eddie
Wilson, Mrs. Tom Weldon,
Misses Joanie and Beth
Weldon, Mrs. E. B. Mc-
Whorter, all of Milner; Miss
Kay Pinckney of Atlanta;
Mrs. Hugh Price, Locust
Grove; Mrs. Henry Smith of
Monticello; and Mrs. James
Simpson of McDonough.
Hostesses assisting Mrs.
Crockarell were Mrs. Cathe
rine Fletcher, Mrs. Martha
Payne, Mrs. Mollie Garland,
Miss Grace Garlington, Mrs.
and Kathyrn Evelyn Fletch
er of Athens.
The attendant’s floor
length dresses carried out
the blue theme. Their flowers
were bouquets of blue and
white daisies. Bunches of
baby’s breath were used as
headpieces. The flower girls
wore blue floor length
dresses and carried baskets
of blue and white daisies.
The groomsmen making up
the bridal party were
Richard M. Fletcher of
Athens and W. D. Lockerman
of Riverdale. Glen Rivers of
Jackson served as best man
and Daniel Roy Cook, son of
the groom, was the ring
bearer.
Reverend Donald Folsom
of Jackson performed the
ceremony. Music was provi
ded by Miss Denise Gilbert of
Forsyth.
Mrs. Mary Carol Fletcher
of Athens, sister of the
groom, kept the bride’s book.
The reception was held at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy
Cook in Jackson.
Mothers of the bride and
groom wore, respectively,
blue and peach floor length
gowns and orchid corsages.
Mr. and Mrs. Cook are now
in residence in Jackson,
Georgia.

DINNER PARTY
Miss Ellen Pinckney,
bride-elect, whose marriage
to Jim Balthazar will be
solemnized Saturday after
noon, was honoree at a
dinner party Tuesday eve
ning, August 9th, at Marsh’s
Restaurant. Guests included
former classmates of Miss
Pinckney.
Hostesses for this gay
occasion were Ms. Janice
Cook and Ms. Charlene
Brownlee Wise, w ho present
ed the honoree with a corsage
of red rosebuds.
Following dinner, gifts
were opened and the group
then went to the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Raymond O’Quinn
to prepare rice bags for use
at the wedding reception.
McGOUGHS CELEBRATE
50TH ANNIVERSARY
Mr. and Mrs. Cecil W.
McGough observed their
fiftieth anniversary in a quiet
manner on August 7th at
their home in the Towaliga
Community.
The McGoughs were united
in marriage on August 7,1927
in the home of Rev. and Mrs.
T. J. Thaxton in Griffin with
Rev. Thaxton officiating.
Mr. McGough is the son of
the late William T. McGough
and Mrs. Addie Mae Goolsby
McGough. His wife, the
former Ocie Jewel McClend
on, is the daughter of the late
Grover C. McClendon and
Mrs. Emma Davis McClend
on.
In reminiscing, they stated
they would like to say thanks
for the nice cards and gifts;
special thanks to Mrs. Grace
M. Copeland, only sister of
Mrs. McGough, for a nice
large picture of their
grandmother, Mrs. Rebbeca
Kimbell Davis, wife of Rev.
J. G. Kimbell, w’ho was their
grandfather. Mrs. McGough
recalls that her grand
mother, with whom she spent
much time during her
childhood, stated, “I came to
spend the last week with you
at home.”

lege with a B.S. degree in
Education. At Georgia South
ern, she was a member of
Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and
Gamma Beta Phi Society
(scholastic). At present she
is employed as a teacher in
the Griffin-Spalding County
School System.
The groom-elect is the
grandson of Mr. and Mrs.

hamburger cook-out Sunday
evening, August 14th, honor
ing Miss Ellen Pinckney and
her fiance, Mr. Jim Baltha
zar, who had arrived in
Jackson from Baltimore,
Maryland earlier in the day.
Hostesses for this most
hospitable and delightful
occasion were Miss Mary
Ruth Haisten and Mr. and
Mrs. David Haisten.
Following the delicious
meal, homemade ice cream
was enjoyed by the group.
