Mrs. Bennett
Wins Zero
Defects Award
The latest issue of The
Avondale Sun, publication of
Avondale Mills, has high
praise for Mrs. Marvin
Bennett, of Jackson, as the
latest Zero Defects winner
for the Indian Springs plant.
In a letter to Mrs. Bennett,
Donald Comer, Jr., president
of Avondale Mills, wrote:
“The award to you was
made on the recommenda
tion of Russell O’Neal, with
the approval of David Duffey
and Bob Betts, and here is
what Mr. O’Neal had to say:
“I would like to recom
mend Mrs. Kate Bennett,
second shift winder operator,
for the Zero Defects plant
award. Kate has been
employed with Avondale
Mills at the Indian Springs
plant since September of
1967.
“Kate has a very good
attendance record, having
only been absent from work
once in the past three years.
She is very cooperative, and
always willing to work over
on other shifts when needed.
Her quality is good and she
consistently runs better than
standard production. She is
willing to accept change to
help produce a better
product. She works well with
the other employees, and her
attitude toward her supervi
sors and the company is
excellent. She has an
excellent safety record, and
has not had a medical injury
since the date of her
employment.
“Kate has served on the
Zero Defects Committee, and
is a firm believer in the Z.D.
program. These are some of
the reasons why it is a
pleasure to recommend Mrs.
Kate Bennett for the Zero
Defects plant award.”
Mr. and Mrs. Bennett have
a son, Roger, who is the head
nursery man at the Augusta
National Golf Club and two
grandchildren, Nancy and
Katie, of Augusta.
Mrs. Bennett is a native of
Butts County and attended
Indian Springs School. She
was employed by Pepperton
Cotton Mills, prior to its
purchase by Avondale Mills.
She was also a former
employee of Fashion Pillows
for five years before return
ing to Avondale in 1967.
Her chief hobbies are
working around the house
and keeping and visiting the
children. Mrs. Bennett is a
member of the Union Ridge
Christian Church.
An
ACT
Tip
TRY TALKING
TO YOURSELF
Talking to yourself aloud
is often considered
“strange” behavior but it
can prevent you from being
attacked on the street or in a
public place.
Talking loudly, laughing,
etc., are excellent ways to
confuse a would-be attacker
until you can escape him. Try
to think of other unpredict
able maneuvers. You might
attract more attention if you
yell “FIRE” rather than
yelling for help.
Doing the unexpected may
prevent your becoming a
victim of someone else’s
strange behavior.
