Cleveland of Jackson an nounce the birth of a daughter, Tara Lauree Cleveland, September 10th at Coliseum Park Hospital, Macon. Mrs. Cleveland is the former Saundra Jenkins. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. James Cleveland of Jenkinsburg and Mr. and Mrs. Horace Jenkins of Forsyth. MASTER BOAN Mr. and Mrs. Robert Boan of Jackson announce the birth of a son, Philip Edwin, on September 10th at Griffin-Spalding County Hos pital. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Robert Boan, Sr. of Pompano Beach, Florida and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Giam balvo of Jupiter, Fla. MASTER THURSTON Mr. and Mrs. Donnie Thurston of Jackson an nounce the birth of a son, Adam Wade, September 15th at Griffin-Spalding County Hospital. Mrs. Thurston will be remembered as the former Darlene Tingle. PERSONAL Mrs. Ben B. Garland, president of the Butts County Retired Teachers Associa tion, attended the State GRTA meeting of presidents at the Ramada Inn in Macon September 13th. Freddie Whiten suffered a stroke at the game Friday night between Jackson and Monticello and was carried to Sylvan Grove Hospital. He was later transferred to Georgia Baptist Hospital where his condition Tuesday was reported as improved. Miss Reba Kelly, Eddie Kersey, Scot Moore and Mrs. Ann Kelly attended the Georgia-Clemson game in Athens on Saturday. MACON PARENTS WITHOUT PARTNERS TO DANCE The Macon Chapter of Parents Without Partners will hold a dance Saturday, September 24th, at the National Guard Armory on Anthony Road in Macon, beginning at 8:00 p.m. “The Sound Company” will pro vide the music and admission will be $5.00 per person. Members of Parents With out Partners, an organization open to any single parent, from other chapters are invited to attend. PERSONAL Mr. and Mrs. Hesper Stephens left via plane Sunday night for Minnea polis, Minnesota to be with their daughter and family for the kidney transplant of Lee Speer which was scheduled for Wednesday, September 21st. Mark Cawthon left Satur day to resume his studies at Tech in his second year and attended the Tech-Miami of Florida game at Grant Field that evening. Among those from Jackson entering Tech for their freshman year are Ronnie Norsworthy, Morris Crock arell, Van Fletcher, Bobby Pinckney, Esca Pace, Tim Colwell, and James Smith. They left last week for registration. David Woodward, who was hit by a car while crossing the street in Jacksonville, Florida on March sth, will enter the hospital Thursday and will undergo surgery on Friday, September 23rd. His address: David B. Wood ward, AT-2, NRMC, NAS, Ward 6 East, Jacksonville, Fla. 32212. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bailey Woodward will go down to be with him on Friday. Wendell Mobley left Friday after spending two weeks with his grandmother, Mrs. D. W. Ham of 585 McDonough Road, and with other relatives in Georgia. He is attending College of The Redwoods, Eureka, Calif. Wendell is the son of Rev. and Mrs. M. A. Mobley, missionaries of Nishinomiya, Japan. The young man has spent more than 12 years of his life in Japan. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rooks and Jeff. Mrs. Beverly Singley, Brad and Brian, attended the game in Athens on Saturday between Geor gia and Clemson. HAWTHORNE CLUB RESUMES MEETINGS AFTER SUMMER REST After closing for the summer with a picnic at Indian Springs in June, the Hawthorne Garden Club held its first meeting on Septem ber 13th at the home of Mrs. Harry Redman. Fourteen members and one visitor, Ms. Mae Thurston, were present. Mrs. W. N. Harris, presi dent, called the meeting to order and presided. Mrs. Redman brought a most inspiring devotional, followed by prayer. Mrs. A. H. Coleman gave a report, along with pictures, on her trip to Germany this sum mer. She was accompanied on the trip by her grandchild fren from St. Simons. Mrs. Redman served deli cious vanilla ice cream and brownies. The October meeting will be hosted by Mrs. W. C. Williamson and Mrs. W. J. O’Neal. PERSONAL Mr. and Mrs. Charles Carter, Laurie and Wes Carter, Kerri Long, and Dr. and Mrs. Sam Standard of McDonough formed a con genial group for the Georgia- Clemson game in Athens last Saturday. Mrs. R. H. Pinckney, who was admitted to Crawford W. Long Hospital on Wednes day, September 14th, return ed home late Saturday and was able to return to work on Monday, friends will be interested to know. Miss Louise Thurston of Decatur, accompanied by Martha Davis, has returned from another delightful cruise. They flew to Miami and boarded the Southward Ship and went to Cozumah, Mexico, Grand Cayman Islands, and Ocho, Rios, Jamaica. Going over to Athens on Saturday for the Georgia- Clemson game were Mr. and Mrs. Lou Moelchert and Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Briscoe. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy White and Mr. and Mrs. Danny Hoard were in attendance Saturday at the Georgia- Clemson game in Athens. Mr. and Mrs. Malvin Redman, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Bankston, and Mrs. Charlie Long attended the funeral of their cousin, Frank Greer, in Douglas last Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. John Halley and son, John Paul Halley, I Jr., formerly of Leaven worth, Kansas, have moved to Jackson and are making their home at 584 Wesley Drive. Mrs. Halley will be I remembered as the former Audrey Rossey, daughter of Mrs. F. C. Rossey, Sr. of Jackson. A dinner in honor of Lamar Thaxton of Hawthorne, Calif., was given September 11th at the home of Mr. and Mrs. 11. M. Thaxton. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Clomer Kitchens, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Thaxton, Laura Thaxton, Mr. and Mrs. Clem Thaxton, Donald Thaxton, and Mr. Lamar Thaxton. STATE EMPLOYEES MET IN GRIFFIN The monthly meeting of the Georgia State Employees Association for Area 7 (Butts, Spalding, Henry, Fayette, Upson, Pike, Newt on and Lamar Counties) was held in Griffin on September 14th. Officers for the coming year were elected and include: Jack Brown, Sr., of Thomaston, president; Jea nette B. Howard, of Griffin, vice president, and Sandra K. Hand, of Griffin, secre tary-treasurer. All employees of the State of Georgia in Area 7 are invited to join this organiza tion. PERSONAL Lamar H. Thaxton of Hawthorne, Calif, arrived September 2nd via Eastern Air Lines. While here he visited with Mr. and Mrs. Mack Thaxton, his two brothers, and Mrs. Nellie Taylor, a sister. He saw some of his friends here that he had not seen in 30 years, according to his nephew. Mr. Thaxton returned to Cali fornia via Eastern Air Lines on the 12th. He left Butts County 35 or 40 years ago but frequently returns for visits.
