OUR COUNTY ELECTION 1 .
Some of the Happenings of last
Wednesday.
H:e Authentic Returns from
Each Precinct.
Last Wednesday was the day to elect
county officers. Early In the morning of
that day the candidates and their friends
were assembled to meet the flood of voters
who were expected to roll In here, this
place being the most important of the
three voting precincts in the county. The
voters began coming in about 7 o’clock,
they came in pairs and in droves, horse¬
back, in wagons, buggies, and many on
foot. The streets and yard around the
oourt house were soon so full as to cause
some trouble in getting about. The vot
di«l not go off rapidly at first, but from
nine o'clock on things were lively. For
a long time and in fact nearly all day, it
was hard to guess who was ahead, each
candidate and his friends worked so hard
and seemed to be polling so mar. vole-.
About three o’clock news c* me .* o i
Cotioa HH1 that Sutton, Morris, Ee.t atd
Brown were ahe.»d In that precinci. Co—
ton 11111 does not poll many vote’, but la
such a close race .it was thought that the
e,ult there mlgH be some Irdicalion o’
the final result, so the candidates rodou?»
led their efforts hero, and from then un¬
til the polls closed, the oourt house and
yard was the scene of some of the hardest
wo- king that the candidates or ther work¬
ers will perhaps participate Jin for a long
time. News came from Bluffton about
four o’clock that the candidates were all
very near even, but no figures were (riven.
The official returns came from Bluffton
about ton o’clock that night. A large crowd
was gathered In and around the court
houso to hear the final re¬
sult. The count was finished for this
precinct, at three o’clock Thursday morn¬
ing. We give the returns from each pre
clncfc.
