A Word In Favor cf County
Courts#
The Kontfc*n bounty Cbrrt not only
afford* specify frinl of persons charged
with niiwlcmcauors, Imt it saves much
the county in the trial of lx»th civil and
crirnin.il dasi-s. The rations of
this court is of great iirqrortacee, and
iro<Wr?i; is blessed with n most
i alge Miller is not only well renal in
the law, but hi* discretion is always excr¬
eted to serve justice, and avoid
airy expense to the county at the same
time.
The records of this court for the first
quarter of this year, ending March 31st
1880, allow that 96 casts have been dis
[weed of—57 criminal coses and 39 civi
suits. Of the criminal cases tried, 28
suited in conviction.
Ti e financial showing is as follows:
Received in fines and hire of convicts,
$850.50.
Paid out in costs to officers, and expen¬
ses of delivering prisoners, §628.13.
Puid county treasurer §227.37.
The amount paid the county treasurer
lacked oidy $72.63 of being equal to the
salary paid Judge Miller for the quarter
covered.
It is safe to say that during this quar¬
ter the county court lias saved to the
county at least $500, or more, in jail fees,
aud other e penscs, that would have cer¬
tainly accrued if we were without a coun¬
