wore cut down, our jail kept clear of
minor delinquents, and the ‘Superior
court required not more than a week
to clear its whole docket, when, bc
lorc, it* costly machinery was kept in
motion for ten days or two weeks,
even then not disposing of ail the
cases. Civil cases wero often con¬
tinued hocausd the criminal docket
must he cleared, and business accu¬
mulated, litigants wero annoyed, and
thing* generally, behind.
Perhaps those who w'ould so
thoughtlessly assiet to abolish our
eohnty court, do not understand what
nn expense to the county a day or
two added to a Superior court term
of, means. Ev«ry day means an outlay
at least one hundred dollars, often
more, and it is easy to sco how cur¬
tailing tho time by a day or so, even,
reduces expenses just so much, and
lessens the burdens of the county and
every case brought before tho county
court, and disposed of, lessens the
burden of expenses and consequent
taxation.
