The protracted services begun at the
Methodist church last Sunday are well
attended, and the outlook for some
good w irk is promising.
The-pastor, Tlev. C. A. Jackson, is
assisted by Kev. C. A. Austin and Mr.
M. A. Buchanon, of Waycross, the lat¬
ter conducting the morning services
and the former preaching at night.
Both have impressed their hearers
with the r e.unestnoss and zea’ md w
trust their efforts will result in much
good.
Miss Bonnie Feagan, of Americus,
conducts two services each day, one
for the benefit of children and the
other for the public generally, and her
Bible talks and admonition on general
lines are highly intelligent, interesting
and edifying. Her earnestness and
evident consecration lias won her t lie
confidence of all, and we hope her
coming among us will prove a bless¬
ing.
Rev. E. M. Whiting, of Dawson, a
former, beloved pastor of this church,
is also w^th us > and while he is here
more in the capacity of visitor and
spectator than that of preacher his
presence adds much to the interest of
the services.
A Negro Shot and Killed.
A negro named John Duncan, a
tenant on Mr. R. L. Jenkins’ planta¬
tion, was shot and killed near Zetto
last Wednesday afternoon by Mr.
Mitch Womack, the seventeen-year
old son of Mr. J. T. AVomack.
AVc are informed that the negro and
young Womack had boon at duR* for
some time, and that the negro had
cireu’ated some damaging reports
about the young roan, which he, AVom¬
ack, declares were false. The only
eye witness, we learn, states that
when AVcmack approached the negro
in regard to these reports, with a stick
in his hand, the negro jerked the stick
away from him, but before he could
use it they clinched, and AVomack se¬
curing liis pistol reached around the
negro and shot him in the back, the
ball passing through his bowels and
killing him.
AA'e are informed that the negro was
a desperate character, and had been
very troublesome to both white and
black in the community.
Our informant states that there
was only one witness present and that
his evidence justifies the young man
in the killing. However, there a.e
others who doubt that such t 'license,
and we regret that we have been un¬
able to get their version cf the affair.
