A wondorini liiflii.
Mr. Cawhern has hail several nc
etaleno lights displayed at tlie Baptist
church this week, ami their wonderful
illuminating power has been t lie
occasion of general remark.
These lights are one the great
achievements of modern science, and
seem destined to supplant all lesser
lights, even rivaling electricity. They
are said to be die cheapest, safest and
one of the most powerful lights used,
and are rapidly growing in favor.
They are being adopted by numer
ous small cities and towns that cannot
afford the more expensive electric
plants, and are found but little more
costly than kerosene. Our city fathers
might find it to the interest of the
town to investigate the merits of this
new method of street lighting. It
seems to us that an itnproveu cut
50 per cent in lights at an
cost of not more than 10 per cent
worth considering.
Again it might prove profitable
a stock company to invest in a
of the kind and supply the town
individuals with lights.

Dr. Geo. It. Ewell and wife, of
Richmond, Va., arrived in tho'city last
evening on a visit to the doctor’s
daughters, Mrs. C. B. Geer and Mrs.
II. E. Hammack. As the gonial doc¬
tor resided in Blakely for many years
his visit doubtless seems like a home
coimhg to Iiiin, as it does to his friends,
who are extremely pleased to see him
and his charming wife.—Early County

A recent issue of the Americas Her¬
ald contains the following mention of
a quondam drummer who is well and
favoratlv known Here: “Tom Black
of the Plain's was in town yesterday.
He is an old knight of the grip, but is
farming now. Tom has traveled so
long that while in the field he grabs
for his grip when he hears a locomotive
blow', which shows that habit is sec¬
ond nature.”
White Man Turned Yellow.
Great consternation was felt by the
friends of M. A. Ilogarty of Lexington,
Ky., when they saw lie was
yellow. IBs skin slowly changed
also his eyes, and lie suffered terribly.
ILs malady was Yellow Jaundice.
was treated by tho liest doctors,
without benefit. Then he was advised
to try Electric Bitters, the wonderful
Stomach and Liver remedy, and he
writes: “After taking two bottles I
was wholly cured.” A trial proves its
matchless merit for all Stomach, Liver
and Kidney troubles. Only 50c. Sold
by S. P. C. Hatchett Druggist.
Mr. L. E. Black has been appointed
to the position of farmer and sup¬
erintendent of transportation of the new
federal prison ii. Atlanta, and will
leave for Atlanta tomorrow to assume
the duties of his position. The place
is an important one and pays a good
salary. Mr. Black received the ap¬

Congressman Griggs.—Early County

Politenes.
We fear we have reached tho era of
decadence. In the mad rush to get
rich avo pay too little attention to the
social necessities of life. The spirit
of commercialism in the land causes us
to forget 1 Hat chivalrous spirit that
made the South so renowned in the
good old ante-bellum days. We are
raising up a race of “hustlers,” to he
sure, which is all right, providing it is
not done to the neglect of the finer
feelings of the human heart. Let us
advance; wo believe in advancement.
But let us go forward with an equal
foot, carrying along all the attributes
of a perfect manhood, with equal
breast. The children must be taught
that politeness costs them nothing,
and that it wins upon the average man.
The young must never lose that re¬
spect which is due from them to older
heads. A tip of the hat and a polite
“geod morning” are always in place
when we meet, and these little offices
go a long ways in making life bright
and pleasant, and they indicate good
breeding and careful training. Boys
should, be taught to respect the girls,
and our young men a knightly devo¬
tion to our ladies. We say again, let
us advance, but let it be along all lines
Mentally, socially, intellectually and
financially—but in all our ways let us
bo polite and respectful.—Americus

holders of Hark Cemetery Company.
We are informed the object of this
meeting of the stockholders is for tho
purpose of incorparating, and discuss¬
ing the advisability of putting in pipes
and supplying eacli lot with water so
that the owner can water their flow¬
ers. If this is done, our Cemetery will
certainly be one of the prettiest of the
stale, (strangers visiting our town arc
struck with the beauty of our Ceme¬
tery grounds, and all that is lacking is
sufficient supply of water, to keep
the flowers blooming. Wo under¬
stand that every one of the original
Stockholders, who have a representa¬
tive living hero is invited to attend
this meeting.
