Divorce In Curma.
Divorce in Burma is free. It can
be claimed by either party for any
good reason, such as incompatibility
of temper, and carries no slur with
it. No lawsuit is required. They go
to the village elders, in a .lowa to
the elders of the quarter, and a di
vorce paper is drawn up that defines
all arrangements as to property and
children. The law as to property
is this: Each retains his or her own
property,- and 'all property acquired’
jointly during married life, as by
trading, is divided equally. But the
claimant of the divorce must leave
the House and all the household
Tgoods- to the other. If it he the wo
man, she may remove her loom; if
'it he the man, he may take nothing.
Thus there C a certain penalty on
claiming a divorce, but i; is not a
large one.—Blackwood’s Magazine.

John Quincy Adams was very
fond of fishing and not r-pecialiy
fond of his legal profession. One
day a case in which he was counsel
was down for trial in a Boston
court. Mr. Adams did not make his
appearance, but sent a letter to the
judge. That worthy gentleman read
it and then postponed the case with
. the announcement:
• “Mr. Adams is detained on im
portant business.”
The note read as follows: “Dear
judge, for the sake of old Isaak Wal
ton please continue my case until
Friday. The smelts are biting, and
I can't leave.”
