______ -j^yRDAY>y RDAY> MARCH OthTmT
Official Organ of Coffee County and City
of Douglas,
It Pays, We Think.
For the last few issues, we have tread on the toes of a few i
people whom we could name in this town, and the only apology*
that we have to make is, that the toes should not have been in the
way. We have number of our readers, thoughout the county, to |
come to us, and say that they were glad that we were doing j
what we were and that they had boys and girls and that they ;
wanted the best influences and conditions possible for them, and 1
that they fully agreed with us in the stand we were taking for the j
betterment of some things in this county, and in Douglas.
We feel that we have have been well paid, and we know that !
there are some, who are going to curse us and say that we have j
been meddling where we have had no business, but the thanks j
and words of appreciation that comes to us from fathers in this!
county far overbalances all the cussing and condemnation, that
those who are hurt, can pile up.
Is there a man in Douglas or Coffee County, who want his boy
to be gambler, or a drunkard, or to be dishonest, or to be other j
things that some people are? We know that there is not such a j
man, yet still, there are men in this town who will get drunk, who
will, occasionally, stay out late at night playing cards, and some
time late at night, when no body knows what they are do
ing. They are men, who would not have their families know what
they were doing for the world, they would not have their sons fol
low their footsteps, they expect to debauch themselves, and then i
expect to sea pure and good boys grow up after them. Do you
think that they will do it? The young boys and girls of our town
and county are the people that we are the most interested in, and
they are the people that we hope to be able to do the most good. ;
They are the hope of our future and through them we can see the |
success or failure of our future. They are the ones that should have
good examples set before them and the father or man who will de
liberately set an example that will lead his own boy, or the pure
boy of some other man, astray, is a very vile and dangerous man.
He is doing worse than murder your boy, and were he to raise his
hand against him, physically, you would be ready to lay the strong j
hand of the law upon him, if you did not lay your own hand, rather i
roughly. Yet, he can ruin his moral lift, and if the fool editor, of
a little weeklv paper happens to have little enough sense to take a
stand for your boy, you are ready to act the fool and stand around
town cussing him. If there is a man who reads this paper who
wants his boy to be a curse to humanity, a violater of the law, a
disgrace to his mother and sisters, and an image of his father, if
you will send us your name, we will be glad to take such a name
off our list, as we don’t think it is the Enterprise that you want.
We are glad that one of the papers published in the county,
the Willacoochee Sun, takes a stand with us, and endorses what we
h ive done, the other two, one pleads ignorance, and the other
p'.eads “rubber backed.”- Their pleas will not be stricken by this
CJurt, as we believe that they are good and speak the truth.

To the Newspapers of Douglas, Ga.
Realizingthe steady growth of South Georgia, which grows not
by leaps and bounds but by one great continuous leap; realizing that
Douglas, the metropolis of Coffee, must grow, and Homerville,
three times the largest town between Waycross and Valdosta, is
growing;;and realizing that since our sisters, Nashville, Milltown,
Willacoochee, and others are making such rapid strides in growth
through the advertising medium, let us turn our attention to our
selves, to Homerville and Douglas, around which and between
which two towns are the best all-round-farming lands in the world.
First, and the only thing we shall speak of at this time, is that
we should agitate an undertaking of some company to build a rail
road from Douglas to Homerville and then if needs be, from the
latter to Fargo on the G. S. & F.
Look at your map and you will see a large area where no roads
go North and South in this section and no points that need connec
tion like Douglas, Homerville, and Fargo.
Talk it to the men of capital at your end of the line and get
them interested.-Clinch County News.

At this port we are becoming
much more familiar with foreign
war vessels and foreign naval
sailors than with those of our
country. If Uncle ISam would i
send his vessels down this way
more frequently,'J so that we
might get acquainted with the
service, it would redound to the
benefit of all concerned.—Savan

If some old subscribers who
have annually failed to notice
the dates on which their subscrip

pay without a statement or two
we might experience a “brain
storm.”
