W. c. BRYAN, - - Editor.
Entered as second-class matter October 20 1905 at the Post Office
at Douglas, Ga., under the Act of Congress of March 3, 1897.
SATURDAY, JULY 13, 1907.
Officia’. Organ of Coffee County and City
of Douglas,
Resolutions Endorsing The Georgian.
The following resolutions were introduced by Dr. W. C. Bryan
in church conference last Sunday night and they were unanimously
adopted by the large congregation present. They were as follows i-
Whereas, there is now on a fight in the legislative halis of the
state for state prohibition, and,
Whereas, It is certain that a very large majority of the people
of the good state of Georgia favor prohibition, and desire a state
law passed to that end, and,
Whereas, There is now about ninety per cent of the state that
is day, and the other ten per cent contaminates the dry portion,
thereby rendering local option more or less unsatisfactory and un
der present conditions allows the ten per cent to impose on the
other larger part of the state that desires to keep the sale of whis
key out, and,
Whereas, There are a few larger cities within the state that
think that they will be benefitted by the retention of the sale of
whiskey in them, to the detriment of the other parts of the state,
and by so doing, render inoperative, to a more or less extent, the
local option of other sections, and,
Whereas, The large daily papers of the state have seen fit,
with one exception, to line up against the will of the majority of
the people of the state, in that they oppose a state prohibition law,
and are endeavoring to keep matters as they now stand, which
action we most strongly condemn, therefore,
Be it resolved, first, That we extend to the Atlanta Georgian,
the only large daily paper in the state that has taken a high stand
for moral advancement along this line, doing this in the face of
threats and intimidations, our most sincere commendation for the
position taken, assuring this paper, which we regard as the purest
and best paper of its class in the state, of our highest appreciation
and promise of support.
Be it resolved further, That we send a copy of these resolu
tions to the Georgian and request that they be published, and ask
that other papers that endorse, or are favorable to this action,
publish then.

Father And Daughter Meet.
Capt. W. M. Denton of Doug
las, Ga., who is connected with
the Consolidated Reality and Im
provement Co., now opening
up Suwannee Terrace, is spend
ing some time here with his
family. In fact, they will re
main until after the sale of lots
which will be several weeks.
Capt. Denton had quite a
pleasing and peculiar eperience
a few days ago, right here in
White Springs. He has a daugh
ter 16 years of age whom he had
never seen, she having lived
with her grandmother all her life.
The grandmother and young
lady, who are residents of
Homerville, Ga., decided to visit
our famous spring and Capt
Denton w r as here on business.
Neither knew of the others pres
ence, and they had passed each
other on the street, not knowing
of their relation. Finally .a
friend of Capt. Denton, who al
so knew the young lady, made
known the facts to them and
brought about a meeting. It
was a happy, though somewhat
embarrassing, scene, but both
are now delighted.—Wh it e

He is in the race for represen

Both counties want him.

The records show that no town
has ever suffered, in Georgia,
because it went dry hut on the
other hand, every one of them,
without exception, has rapidly
improved. This would be true
of every town and city in Geor
gia.
<s> «> <£
We understand that DeSoto,
Ga. has seven barrooms and two
other business houses. There is
not a church nor a school house
there. They need more people
to make the town grow. How
many of you, who have children,
will want to move there? We
do not look for an exodus of our
people towards that place. Do
you ?
«> <&
Bankers, who are opposed to a
prohibition law, are making
statements that loans will be
withdrawn and not be allowed
to be renewed in Atlanta.
Every pressure will be broght to
bear and this is one of them.
We believe that the financial
condition of every town and sec
tion of the state would be better
if we had the state prohibition
law.
<B> <*’
That deficit in the municipal
funds of Atlanta, Macon, and
the few other large towns in the
state may ruin those cities, and
we suppose it will, but is a town
on good basis when it has to de
pend entirely on such a traffic ?
The best people in these cities do
not so think, but a few, who
for their own selfish ends, de
clare they will be ruined.

Quite a number of our citizens
spent the fourth away from home.
Several went to Col. J. M. Den
ton’s to a fish fry, and they all
report a most enjoyable time.
Several went down to County
Commissioner B. Mills’ to attend
his annual picnic on the fourth
and report that there was a large
crowd and a pleasant time for
all. We were invited to both
places, but we were unable to go.
Brc. Eugene Merrier, who has
been our worthy Noble Grand,
for the last six months, is now
filling the chair pf the acting
Past Grand.
On next Monday night, many
matters of importance will come
up before the lodge, among them
will be the appointments to be
made by the Vice Grand. Let
every member that is not provi
dentially detained, be present at
this meeting. The lodge is tak
ing on new energy, and much
good will be the result to each
and every member, who will meet
and be with us, and thereby
catch the spirit of “true odd fel
lowship.” This meeting will be,
when there are a good many
brethern of the other lodges of
the county in Douglas. To these
visiting brothers, we extend a
cordial invitation to meet with
us; your presence will encourage
and stimulate us, and we trust
that we may be of some benefit
to you.
Fraternally yours,
Odd Fellows.
