Quite a pleasant afternoon was spent Monday with Miss Willie Pearl Davis in honor of her tenth birthday by a number of her young friends. Mr. Dan Gaskin, Sr., spent several day with his daughter, Mrs. Forest Clough, of Jeff Da vs county. Mr, Clough returned home with him for a few days. Mrs. Will de Graffenried has re turned to her home in Portsmouth, after a pleasant visit to her nieces, Mesdames J. W T . Quincey and 'M. D. Dkskerson. On Friday of last week, the bridge club was pleasantly entertained by Mrs. J. L. Shelton in honor of her sister, Mrs. R. C. Chandler, of . Vir ginia. On this Friday Mrs. Dicker son was hostess to the club. A number of little folks enjoyed a picnic given by Master Purcell Rob erts on Tuesdy at Needmore Park. Misses Ophelia Owens, Lillie Purcell and Mary Roberts had charge of the children for this pleasant day. Miss Mary Hamlin Guerrant, who spent the winter here with her aunt, Mrs. W. C. Patterson, will be mar ried to Mr. William Gillepsie, of Dan ville, Va., some time this month. Miss Guerrant has many friends here who will be interested in this announce ment. Mrs. A. A. Kuhl is the pleased owner of a new 7-passenger Stude baker car. She, Miss Florence Huss, Mrs. Rogers and children, accompan ied Mr. W. L. Rogers, the local rep resentative, to Atlanta Friday night and brought it through the country. The roads were in excellent condition, so the drive back was quite pleasant. A VERSATILE FAVORITE Rev. T. S. Hubert, pastor of First Baptist church, who in addition to an active ministry at home, has held three protracted meetings this year, and delivered three commencement addresses, is now in demand for ser vice in Summer Sunday School Con vention, two invitations reaching him this week. He has felt himself over worked for some weeks and may have to decline what otherwise would be a labor of love, but the complimentary invitations are appreciated by his church and many friends out of it at Douglas and elsewhere. ■ SHERIFF MAKES SEVERAL HAULS THIS WEEK The sheriff brought Will Chatman, a negro of West Green, to jail last Sunday night. He is charged with the murder of another negro, John Burch, at West Green. The sheriff also made a raid on the home of Geo. Bryant, colored, of Pearson, a few days ago, and located ■6B pints of whiskey. Bryant was lodged in jail last Friday for this offence, but was released on Monday, by giving J $250.00 bond. Lone McFadden and Arthur Blount, colored, were placed in jail this week on charges brought by Mr. Olver Deen. These are two well known ne groes of the ctiy and have previous ly worked for the several drug stores. A theft was discovered and Mr. Deen had traced it to these boys. We un derstand that they have giver, bond. NICHOLLS NEWS Nicholls is getting to be one of the wettest little towns in Georgia. If you don’t believe it, then come look at our little garden. Miss Lula Meeks was in town this week. We knew it by Charley Pow ers parting his hair in the middle. Mrs. Frank Chapman and Miss Pearl Wilcox have two charming vis itors in Miss Mary Belle Bostwick, of Broxton, and Miss Jennie Thur man, of Monk. We hereby assert and positively claim that we have the only 1,000- pound heavyweight medical quartet in Doctors Vinson, Dyer, Meeks and Cannon. Well, any little town who dares dispute our assertion, speak up! Miss Janie Douglas is back from Jacksonville after visiting friends. The writer and Mr. Joe Sthreiber seahore. We promise not to tell any fish stories. Mrs. L. L. Shearer is up again after a two weeks’ illness. Her many friends will be glad to hear this an nouncement.
