While the boy didn’t have chance to show much of his wares in Chattanooga,, anybody who is as much of a judge of a Ballplayer as the average Kentuckian ie of a horse, can see at a glance that he is a wonder. He stands at the plate right and is a natural hitter. He runs beauti fully and lias the speed of a deer. 1 want to straighten my friends out % little on this young man, for I’m afraid already he’9 in bad with the fans. They think he's tiie most conceited player that ever lived, but he is not. KaulT has been the victim of too much press-agenting— the victim of well-meaning newspaper friends who have overplayed the pub licity game. Kauff, cf course, does not under-esti mate his own ability. He is a daring fellow and knows what he can do, but you «tn truthfully sav he is modest. Down at the Giants’ Training Camp, lit Marlin. Texas, Kauflf was introduced to Larry Dovle, Captain of the Giants,, and leading batsman of the National League last year. ‘’Benny, said the introducer, “this is lairry Doyle, leading National League batsman last year.” “Well, I can hit some, mvself,” said Banff. Now I admit that sounds bad in print, but the laws w'lo overheard this sav it didn’t sound bad at all. It was lust good nadured kidding. It s the same way with other remarks quoted from him. Kauff wants to be ti kidder, and sometimes the things he sava sound ail right until they get In print. I know, personally, that McGraw i 9 counting for much from him this year.
