ONE YEAR SI.OO SIX MONTHS THREE MONTHS 25 Publishes 7he Legal Advertising Of The City Of Douglas, Coffee County, And County Commissioners. Eitlered as second class matter at the postoffice at Douglas, Ga., under the Act of Congress of March 3, 1879. South Georgia gets two of the new Judges, while the other comes from the middle sec tion of the state. 0 There seems to be no lel-up In the en joyment at the Kracker club. The approach of winter will hardly check the pleasure being derived at this popular resort. o Congratulations to George and Luke, two of South Georgia’s gifted sons, who will adorn the court of Appeals. 0 J. J. Brown was at Macon and told a rep resentative of this paper that he loved every soul in Douglas, that he was coming down and explain it all, and hoped that the people of Cof fee would be his friend, as he was theirs. J. J. loves everybody now-a-days, which is quite natural. Had he been defeated, no such word would ever have been sent to our people. 0 There has been some talk of an independent ticket being put out in Coffee for the November election, to cover all the offices that will be nam ed at that time. Now such talk is rot. If the independent wants to stay in Coffee county poli tics, he had better stay out of this. The day for independentism, or, bolting the primary, is a thing of the past in Georgia, and should be, and the man or set of men who will take up such methods, should be disfranchised from ever participating in any future Coffee county primary. One of the most notable gatherings in a decade was the state convention held in Macon on last Tuesday. It was exactly the opposite of what the mischief-makers and malcontents wanted and have been clamoring tor lor several weeks. Everything proved to be a love least. There were no bombs, and it was impossible to discover any factionalism or strife of any kind among the various delegations. The politician was conspicuous for his absence. In the elect ion of the Judges of the Court of Appeals, no factionalism developed, no bitterness resulted, and also when there appeared to be some divi sion among the Dorsey ranks on the election of a candidate to succeed the late Justice Lump kin, the parties interested, rather than have any disention, withdrew from any contest, and the convention passed the matter up for the people. If this wasn’t democratic, then no con vention ever practiced a democratic principle. It was so unlike the convention of two years ago. No steam-roller was in evidence in Macon this week. Everything was one way, the people who gathered there were of the same mind and kind, but were most respectful of the opposing faction in Georgia, a thing un known to the convention of two years ago. The convention just ended could not hvae been otherwise, for the manipulator was not there to tear up and tear down. If all conven tions could be held in Georgia like this one was held, there would be less strife and faction alism, and the state would enjoy greater peace and prosperity. At this meeting every mem ber present was allowed to express his own in dividual views on any subject, and he was not howled down. There were no stacked cards and the liberty of free expression was given every one. It was an epoch-making event, and the convention will go down in history as an ideal gathering, a pattern that might be used in any state, and a gathering whose conduct is worthy of imitation anywhere and at anytime. O The malcontents failed to have their am bitions realized at the Macon convention. 0 ■ It was a Dorsey convention—a veritable love-feast, no friction or strife of any kind, and all of this displeases the mischief-makers in Georgia, particularly the Macon Telegraph, Augusta Chronicle and the Atlanta Journal.
