J. W. QUINCEY THE DOUGLAS ENTERPRISE, DO UGLAS, GEORGIA. NOV. 4 1916. MISSIONS ABROAD AND AT HOME From Nov. 5-11 has been set apart to observe as week of prayer and we ask why? 1. The aspiration and uplift to the membership of the auxiliary observing this season. You cannot come to gether daily and spend an hour in study of the work and in prayer for the work and fail to catch a great vision and receive a great blessing. 2. The groth of the kingdom is de pendedt on the prayers of the children of God. Why this is so we cannot tell, but it is true that every forward move is the result of earnest prayer. The Week of Prayer will make pos sible great advance and success for the Church of our Lord in the whole earth. Obstacles of indefference and unbelief will be overcome and the im possible will be done when we pray. 3. The offering of love which will spontaneously accompany our earnest prayers will provide the necessary money for this odvance movement. There are many enlargements necess ary in the work already established and many open doors waiting for our coming in His name. Many places are to be occupied for our Lord for which money is needed. After prayer and study of the field, the Council has se lf cted the two points most needing at tention just now—Holding Inst’tute, at Laredo, Tex., and the school to be established in Rio, Brazil. The study of the needs and opportunities of these two points will be gained from daily .program as we observe the Week of I rayer. \oung People During The Week Of Prayer. “One afternoon during the Week of Prayer sh:iH be given to the young people. The topic for the week is Latin America. The goal has been set at $5,000 for the young people’s offering.” Will these words mean anything to our young people? Repeat them again and r.rmiri. im-.il the bigness of fi-c. i.a lu ...--..d of every joung person. The young people are comng into their own and are learning that char acter, Christian <-haracter, comes through self-denial. This new impe tus given to young people’s work is a forward movement that will be felt wherever there are young people. Mi ssion Study. Of the five hundred Mission Study Classes reported during the first half of the year, North Georgia leads, with fifty-five; while North Mississippi is second, with thirty-three. Alabama, Baltimore, Memphis, and Texas report over twenty classes. Offerings by young people for first six months of 1916, $12,082.65. In crease over same period of 1915, $3,313.51. Virginia has given the largest amount, $1,977.55; while North Geor gia comes second, with $1,065.10. These two Conferences alone have given as much as $lO, 000. A Visit To Vashti. The Home Secretary, Mrs. R. W. MacDonell, and the Treasuerr, Mrs. F. H. E. Ross, made a visit of inspect ion to the Vashti Industrial School in September. Th e objective of this visit was to inspect buildings, investi gate the need of repairs, arrange for enlargement and the opening of the model cottage. There are ninety girls in attendance, coming from every walk in life. In the past the years the Disciples of Christ have increased their offer ings to foreign missions ninety per cent and their foreign mission forces seventy-five per cent.--A. E. Cprey. Supt. Publicity. FOR JUSTICE OF THE PEACE. I announce my candidacy for Jus tice of the Peace, for the Douglas (748th District G. M.) not at the sol icitation of a soul on earth, but simply want the office, because I know that I am sober, honest, and capable, as proven by my past and present record and known to every voter in the Dis trict, and need the small emoluments to assist me in my old age to care for myself and semi-invalid aged wife. And that my only son, can walk the streets of Tampa and proclaim that his father is Justice for the pious old Douglas district, I shall accord to each voter the privilege of voting for the man of his choice, just as I do myself and most assuredly will not charge them in the public prints of being bought with a quart of whiskey and a two dollar bill. Because they voted like free men and opposed me. If de feated, I will get over it. But may never look well afterward and earn estly ask the votes of each man in the district. Election first Saturday in December next. Yours for success GUS. L. BRACK.
