We, J M. Batten and family desire
to express cur thanks of gratitude
toward the people of the community!
for their kindness during illness and
death of our dear mother, who died on
April 16th and was buried on the 18th.
She was IN years old on the day she
was buried. She seemed to have great
hopes of herself and didn’t mind to
go.

Mr. B. W. Tanner attended the gen
eral meeting at Alma Saturday and
Sunday.
Mrs. T. L. Wilcox is on the sick list
this week, hope she will soon be up
again.
Mr. H. C. Roberts'* spent Monday
night with Mr. Austin Tanner.
Miss Annie Lee Roberts spent Fri
day night and Saturday with Miss
Ezell Tanner and then Ezell spent
Saturday night and Sunday with her.
Mr. H. C. Roberts and niece, Annie
Lee, Mr. Jeff Lewis and niece, Ezell
Tanner, spent Sunday morning with
Mr. Roberts father.
Mrs. Jeff Lewis spent Sunday with
her sister, Mrs. T. L. Wilcox.
The musical entertainment given at
the home of Mr. Chares Meeks was
enjoyed by a large crowd, the music
w'as fine.
Messrs. Bfrit Brigman and Dan
Meeks, of below Nieholls, were pleas
ant visitors at bur Sunday school

Messrs. Joe Courson and Jeff Right
'took Misses Thelma and Lizer New
bern up to Pridgen to the big sing
Sunday but won’t say what else they
did. I thought something was up as
they bought themselves a new suit
last week.
The New Forest hoys played the-
Shepherd boys at Shepherd Saturday
afternoon and got beat. Boys I tell
you that won’t do, cheer up and do
better next time.
It looks sa if w r e are going to have
some rain today (Tuesday).
Uncle Jim we have organized a
singing class. You must take your
j cornet and come out and help us.
There was not quite as many out at
’Sunday school Sunday afternoon as
there was Sunday before last.
Wonder how many times Oscar
Gaskins fell off that old long footway
night. •
Only one more week of school and
hen cotton chopping.
M r. Fisher Dent spent the latter
part of last week in Atlanta having
some work done on his car.
M essrs. Leroy Kirkland and Jim
Miller were pleasant visitors at our
Sunday school Sunday afternoon.

Quite a large crowd attended ilia
candy drawing at Mr. Irwin Robin
sons Saturday night. All reported a
good time.
Miss Flowers seemed to enjoy the
candy drawing, she had a soldier boy
on each side of her.

Some of our courting folks took a

off the day with pleasure last Sun

One of our widows said that she
would be glad if they would call her
name in the paper as she can’t take
a hint.
We are glad to see Mr. Santiford
J up from having a bad case of measles,
good nursing is medicine.
Mr. Corbitt Beckom is very sick
with measles, we hope he will soon
recover.
Miss yMrtis Davis is visiting her
sister, Mrs. J B. Manning.
Misc Irea Cowart, little Miss Lilia
Hilliard, Mr. Jim Cowart, Calvin
Sears and J. l>. Manning visited Miss
Bcula CriM. last Sunday afternoon.
We think tat wedding will come o'F
in a few days and then a wedding
trip to Brunswick.
The boys are planning to go in
swimmnig Tuesday. Mrs. Cowart
will be the first to hit the spring board
Miss Kate Flowers next, Mrs. Kate
Sw-eat and the rest.
Mr. Brogdon says he has lost out
with the widows of Zirkle, but Mrs.
Kate Sweat says not so.
Mr. J. J. Johnson is the soda water
man, but don’t furnish any one but
Mrs. Hilliard.
Wondar why Lewis Sweat is wear
ing a pose in his hat, all the boys at
Zirkle seem to love Flowers, but the
soldier boys have got all their times
heat with the only Flowers in Zirkle.
The widows of Zirkle are anxious
for Uncle Jim to come down and help
them put Joe Gaskins head in a tar
bucket.
Mr. Winn was stepping high in
Zirkle Sunday night, he must have
been on trail of a cat. ZIRKLE.
