IBOOKS, DEEN, YOUNG, TANNER
AND QUINCY WERE SUCCESSFUL
The city election passed off quietly
last Saturday, the results being
known in a few minutes after the
polls closed. Voting was quiet
throughout the day and while there
was quite a bit of interest manifested
in the races for council, everything
was orderly and friendly, and every
body seems to be satisfied.
There were 234 votes polled out of
a registration of 266. Col. Lawson
Kelley, the nominee for Mayor, re
ceived the full vote cast, which is
indeed a compliment to him, even if
he did not have opposition. Mr.
Arthur Brooks, the candidate from the
First Ward, led the ticket, and will
likely be the new Mayor-protem, as
this has been the custom for a num
ber of years.
The new administration will be
sworn in the first Monday night in

Morris, a young negro, shot and kill
ed Tom Freeman another negro, dray
man of the Douglas Grocery Co. while
in a restaurant in the negro quarters.

at Henry Bell, and later he approach
