“OPERA GHOST” IS
VfEIRI) THRILLER
Rig Production Coming Here.
“The Phantom of the Opera,” Lon
Chaney’s much-heralded successor
spectacle to “The Hunch-back of Notre
Dame,” and one of the most daring
departures in screen portrayals ever
attempted, comes Sept. 27-28 to the
Rivoli Theatre. It is a spectacular
mystery story of Paris, a complete
operatic performance, staged in the
Paris Opera House, lai’gest in the
world.
Lon Chaney plays “The Phantom,”
a strange creature of the shadows, in
a makeup that eclipses his weird dis
guise as “Quasimodo” in the Hugo
classic. Mayy Philbin, plays the opera
singer whom he kidnaps into his un
derground stronghold, and Norman
Kerry plays her lover and rescuer.
A remarkable east is seen in the
principal roles, and fully four thou
sand people take part in the mob
scenes, the brilliant spectacles on the
Grand staircase of the Opera, and the
gala performance of “Faust” staged
in opera house proper.
Much of this action is taken in color
photoplay, which gives a vivid aspect
to the kaleidoscopic scenes.
The dropping of the huge chandelier
of the Opera House on the heads of
the audience, the remarkable chases
through the dark underground cellars,
and the strange adventure on the un
derground lake are among the big
scenes of the story.
Our people are to be congratulated
in the opportunity to see this lavish
and magnificent photoplay which Man
ager Carroll has arranged to bring to
Douglas Monday and Tuesday, Sept.
27-28.
W. M. COOK SELECTED
AGENT HUDSON AND ESSEX
Mr. W. M. Cook announces, that he
has been selected as the agent for
Hudson and Essex motor cars for
Douglas and territory. Mr. Cook has
been investigating the Hudson-Essex
proposition for some time and is par
ticularly enthusiastic about both
makes. He looks for substantial busi
ness from the first.
“In my investigation,” said Mr.
Cook, I learned that the Hudson and
Esser companies have always had a
splendid reputation with their owners,
dealers and distributors alike and
throughout the automobile industry,
as well. Automobile men tell me that
their product hhs always been of high
standard and that they have unusual
financial strength. I went most care
fully into the entire matter, including
construction methods, principles and
workmanship of the two cars, and am
confident that no other cars offer as
much for the price asked as the Hud
son Super-Six or the Essex. I feel
fortunate in being selected as their
representative for this territory.
“While in Atlanta I was shown a
number of letters, sent in by Hudson
and Essex owners which certainly
spoke volumes for the long life, econ
omy, ease of handling and comfort
which the construction and engineer
kig principles of the Hudson and Es
sex make possible.
“I can assure users and prospective
users in Douglas that in either a splen
did, attractive Hudson, or in the
smalled, lighter but no less attractive
Essex they will find a ear by far the
'test buy that they have experienced
in years.
“Our new stocks comprise the lat
est models in both cars and we invite
the public to inspect them and ex
amine their fine points.”

EDUCATION, NOT
PROFIT, IS AIM OF
GA STATE FAIR
Savannah, Ga. -Education, not
profits, is the aim of the Georgia
State Fair —education of the peo
ple of Georgia and the Southeast—
as to the possibilities of their
state, and at the same time similar
education to those outside of the
state, as to what it has to offer
In advantages as a commonwealth
In which to make their homes.
Every industry, craft and science
has a representation at the State
Fair each year, and the Georgia
exposition has achieved pre-emi
nence among all the State Fairs in
the country. Directors of the Fair
give their services free, and every
dollar received goes to mainte
nance and improvements.
By the maintenance of a prop
er balance between art and indus
try, science and agriculture, the
State Fair of Georgia is made
thoroughly representative of South
eastern life in general, a great
summary of community achieve
ment in all lines of endeavor.

FOR WORKING PEOPLE
The best of workers get out of sorts
when the liver fails to act. They feel
languid, half-sick, “blue” and discouraged
and think they are getting lazy. Neglect
of these symptoms might result in a sick

take a dose or two cf Herbine. It is just
