Tlie luxuries that we are enjoying today have crept up on us unawares; therefore we do not appreciate them as fully as we should. If we could recall the past, we would be extra, ordinarily grateful for the privileges of living in the present. 1 had the task of paying quite a number of small accounts. I wrote quite a number of checks. The bills were all in Douglas. I put the checks with the statements, enclosed them in envelopes, put on a two cent stamp and dropped them into a mail box. The task was finished. My banker will furnish me with a receipt from each of the firms. He will file the endorsed checks when they are presented and paid, and they will come back to me as receipts. Suppose I could not have written checks. My job would have been dif ferent. Where does my banker come in on this great scheme of paying those bills? He furnished the blank checks. They cost him some money. He had them printed. That cost him some thing. lie furnished a teller to record the checks and see that they were properly receited or endorsed, which takes time. That teller’s time was worth something. Somebody paid it. The banker paid it. When 1 sit down and think how much time and money the banker sav ed me by making this possible, I won der what I can do to compensate him. Is it right for me to ride him and to ride his institution? It seems to me to be as little as I can do to give him an account that will be profitable to him, and carry a balance that will en able him to serve me thisSvay without loss. If he wants to put a slip in my can celled checks notifying me that my balances were so small that he had to charge me fifty cents for service during the month, I will thank him for it. I will be surprised that he can do so much for fifty cents. 1 am convinced that he renders the most efficient service at the smallest [ cost that 1 have ever seen rendered in any of the other professions. little extra touch which is cor dial, sincere, personal. When the incoming mails ar rive the parcels are assorted by the carrier placing each section of the city which can be made on one de livery in seperate piles, and when these are disturbed or disarranged, it inconveniences the carrier and retards his work. To assist us, I respectfully request that patrons wait for regular delivery service, as the clerks in the office will be very busy and unable to deiver these parcels from the window, except where box holders recc%re_ such delivery.
