Grand Chaplain Portor Visits “State of
Coffee.”
Rev. W. E. Porter, of Brunswick,
Ga., grand chaplain of the grand,
lodge of Odd Fellows of Georgia. ;
has been on a “swing around the \
circle” and finds such a wonderful j
boom in Coffee county, both in Odd
Fellowship and cqmmerciully, that
he wishes to lay before our readers
the great possibilities of that won
derful county of Georgia, which is
just beginning to attract the out
side world, and which has been
facetiously dubbed the “state of
Coffee.”
Ilis letter to the lodge depart
ment follows :
Brother Rice—l have-just return
ed from a trip to the “State of
Coffee.” My, what a hive of
industry I found there! The busy
hum caused by the hustling people
of that county in their pursuit of
the many enterprises in which they
are engaged was as music to my
ears. In Douglas buildings are go
ing up on every hand, causing a
glow of happiness to the many
mechanics who find employment
upon them. I was anxious to be
in Douglas in time to see their new

Thursday night the 22nd, but was
unable to do so, arriving the
next day. My, what a royal time
they must have had! Fitzgerald

in a special train and did the work
in grand style, undo found the new
brothers enthused over it; would

I found another fine lodge of Odd
Fellows, No. 193. It is the result j
of the earnest work of our brother, j
Dr. Vincent, of Muscogee lodge,
No. 6, of Columbus. Although
young, they have built a nice hall,
which is nicely arranged for work
ing purposes. I had the pleasure
of attending with them a special
service at the Baptist church, where
Brother Rev. J. I. Oxtord, of
Fulton lodge, preached them a ser
mon full of good advice and exhor
tation. I feel that we will hear
more from No. 193 in the near
future. Wishing you success in
your efforts to do good to the orders,
I am yours in F. L. and T.

There’s Ne Particular Secret-
About making flour and yet
given the same mill, same machin
ery and same wheat, no two mill
ers will make flour exactly alike.
Besides the techinal skill there’s a
“knack” in making flour and
Bransford’s miller has it to an ex
ceptional degree. That’s one rea
son why “Clifton” proves so dis
tressingly popular that wherever it
is sold, competitors are obliged to
recognize it as a standard and offer
their flour as “just as good.”

PHILLIPS MILL.
Phillips Mill, Ga., Nov. 10, 1903.
—Rev. Mr. James Bishop, of Ash
ton, preached two very interesting
sermons at New Hope church Satur
day and Sunday.
The fanners near here are very
busy now digging potatoes and
grinding cane.
Mr. J. C. Corbett, formerly of
Phillips Mill lias accepted a position
in the turpentine business at
Florala, Ala. Ilis many friends of
this place regretted to see him leave
but wish him great success.
A very good rain fell in this
section last Wednesday a. m.. which
was very much needed.
Mr. Tommie Harrison, of this
place, entered school in Douglas
last Tuesday was a week ago. We
trust he will have great success at
school.
Rev. Mr. Oxford, of Douglas,
was called by the members of New
Hope church to preach for them
another year. It is hoped that he
can fill liis appointments.
Guess what girl had three escorts
with her at preaching last Sunday?
Never mind.
Mrs. H. F. Brown and children,
of Ambrose, visited her mother
Mrs. T. 11. Brown of here last
Friday.
Messers. Reason Griffin and
Eddie Merritt, of this place, went
to Douglas on business last Thurs
day.
We regret very mucli to learn
that Mr. Ben Joyce’s little girl,
. ..it a.,,, Lii.,, has been *ll ill lie ada
Gong, is still very i 1!. We arg in
; hopes that she may soon be restored
to health again.

T he Female Performers-
The female performers with
Howe’s Great London Shows and
Sanger’s Royal Menagerie and
Trained Animal exhibition which
is advertised to give two exhibitions
afternoon and night at Douglas,
Ga., on Saturday. Nov. 21., are
without a doubt the nerviest and
Mijost acrhite performers in the
known world the enormity of their
strength caused by continuous
athletic work such as the living
trapeze, sister acts, leaping, tumb
hng, riding horses bare back, going
at break-neck speed, and perform
ing hundreds of difficult feats is
unknown. The TTowe’s Great
London Shows have engaged at
a large salary a troup of female al
ters that are wonders of the nine
teenth century.
