partment Friday an explanation from
the minister for foreign affairs of Tur
ney of the Alexandretta affair, stating
in effect that United States Consul Da
vies sought to procure the illegal emi
gration of a Turkish subject, and fail
ing in this, attacked and heat the
Turkish police and then took the
steamer.
