New Hope’s Biz Day.
According to a programme pub
lished in the Breeze services com
menced at New Hope church, near
Ambrose last Friday, and closed on
Sunday, after a fine sermon from
Rev. (». Torn West,] of Leliaton,
His subject was the “City of God
—tlie Home of the Redeemed.” It
was an excellent sermon, with a
master hand .at word painting.
There must have been six or eight
hundred people present. The house
was full and at least 200 were out
side.
The entire proceeding we learned
had been one continual feast of
good things, and it is believed
much good was accomplished by
the harmonious spirit of the ser
vices.
Among the visiting preachers
present we noticed our old esteem
ed friend Rev. T. I’. O’Neal.
Nearly every one knows him and
they all love him.
Rev. J. I. Oxford made the ad
dress on missions that had been
assigned to the writer, and be ac
quitted himself with his usual
ability .
Before the close of the services 1
collection was taken up to complete
the building of the Baptist church
at Broxton, and some $25.00 or
$50.00 was handed in in subscrip
tiens and cash.
The Breeze representative dined
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tom
Brown, and as he expected, when
lie insisted on going there, fared
sumptuously. There he met Mrs.
Jefferson Wilcox and Miss Louise
West, Mr. Sherry West, Rev. Mr.
West, Sammy and Johnnie Phillips
and one or two others. Mrs. Wil
cox was not electioneering, but if
she had been we should have made
any promises she might have de
manded.
While out at the church we could
but notice the sober, religious
fervor that has settled down on the
people known as candidates. They
seem to feel that they need religion
and a good deal of it, and they are
so anxious to be with the people
that they can always be found at
the gatherings.
The people over in the Phillips
mill district have line crops this
year. Corn, cotton, pinders and
potatoes never looked better, and
Tom Brown has a field of pinders,
containing ten acres, the vines now
lapped, until from the road, the
field looks like a green carpet..
From the out look it is supposed
there will be mighty good scratch
ing there ali the year, and Mrs.
Grundy says she may come tnat
way herself some time when Mr.
Grundy is "not looking.
waiting around for Tom
Brown to get his mule mobile ready
for us to fly away we noticed two
young gentlemen standing near in
conversation and we heard one,
•
with dark hair, mostache and eyes
say “that was a fine sermon, he’s
a good preacher and lie’s got a
pretty ! Well, Miss West
will he left at home next time!
Well, we’re glad we went, and
promised that next time we were
lip there we’d stop at Dr. and Mrs.
Moormans beautiful home, near the
railroad and see if they would be
able to weather the storm after we
invaded the dinning room.
It would take the whole side of |
this paper to tell it all, therefore
we will not attempt to say anything
about Ambrose, the new houses,
the clever people and the clever
goxl looking men at the depot.
Ot course we saw Dennis Vickers
the mayor, the marshall and city
council, all of ’em coming toward
l
11s at the depot, but, as the train j
came up at that time, we regret
that we could not stay longer.
It you want to have a good fiull

Coroner Solomon, Sheriff Pass
more and Deputy Sheriff Griffin
were summoned to Blanton early
yesterday morning to hold an in
quest over the body of John Har
vey, a negro man wiio died there
Sunday night as a result of doses
of potash which were administered
to him on the 21st and again on the
24th of July.
Coroner Solomon empannelled a
jury as soon as he t rrived upon the
scene and began to investigate the
case. The evidence of the wit
nesses placed the crime of murder
undisputably upon Mary Havey, I
the negro’s wife.
An autopsy was held by Dr. J. J
F. Hall which resulted in showing j
that the negro’s death was due to
potash eating out the stomach, lie
made a careful examination andj
said there was no doubt as to the
cause of his death.
111 the meantime, other witnesses
testified to hearing Mary Harvey,
his wite, threaten to poison him
with potash. Others said that they
