Micajah Vickers at Willacooehce has plenty of seed cane for sale. Miss Tempe Lott and Miss Kelly of Broxton were on the Douglas streets Saturday. Col. C. W. Fullwood one of Tifton’s best lawyers and staunchest citizens paid the court a pop call Monday. Mr Hillhouse of Waresboro has sold out his business at that place and is now in Douglas with a view of locating ME G. D. Curry of Hazlehurst was in t r "vn Monday and called on the Breeze,. He is a very good natured man. Col. Hitch is evidently an expert on deeds. He knows when they have too much dye and when the coloring is too nearly a model. Dev. A. B. Finley will soon move to Douglas from Leliaton. Ho is travel iug missionary for the Baptist associ ation and will make this liis head quarters, Levi Lawson, Amanda Chancy, and Rosella Lowe Col. were adjudged insane in the Ordinary's court Wed nesday and ordered to be seut to the assy lum. There is now an express oflice at McDonald’s Mill. Now Mr. Superin tendent have the authorities to extend the service out to us and we shall be altogether grateful. Dr. Googe is a man of line ability and sterling worth and the people of the county would have a fine representative in him should he be elected. Ordinary Vickers makes his an nouncement in this issue for reelec tion to the office he now holds. Mr. Vickers has made a faithful and efficent servant of the p'ople and his cha ices for reelection are -cry strong. Fie is a straightforward an 1 good man. Keep your eye on the space reserv ed for W. B. Fenton, the tombstone man of Waycross, He was in Doug las this week and received contracts from Messrs lluxfonl, Sears, Moncrief, Williams, Deen and White. He has recently located at Vaycross and ca v rles fine recommendations. In this issue we call attention tc the announcement of Rev. Tharpe Bailey for County Surveyor. Mr Bailey is an old citizen of Codec and i3 well liked by everybody. There is not a joliier soul in the world than ‘•Uncle Tharpe,” and lie has made the people a good officer this term. Among the prominent men who at tended court this week were, Judge Sweat, Solicitor Brantley, Hon. Leon Wilson, Hon. John W. Beanet, Maj. Holton, Capt. Stone, Judge Perham. Cols. Toomer, Padgett, Jno. Pearson , Pearson has been boom ing with prominent lawyers this week on their way to Douglas. Among them were Solicitor Brant-ley, Judge Sweat and Jno. McDonald. Col. J. W. Bennett the popular law yer who is a candidate for selicitor spent Sunday night in our to worn Dr. J. A. Pugh who lias been prac ticing iu.tiur county for several months left Thursday night for West Palm Beach Fla. where he will locate. Dr. Pugh will be missed very much .in Pearson. W T e wish him much success in his new home. Miss Minnie Blowc from Blackshear is visiting her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. N. C. Greer. Bro. Grace preached two interesting sermons at our church last Sunday. His appointment here is the fourth Sunday in each month, Ho cordial ly invites the people of town to attend. John McLean spent Friday in Hazlehurst. Brother J. S. Lewis will preach for us on next Sunday the SO. We are soon to have anew church in our community. Gray, has boon very sick for tlie past week but glad to know she is im proving. Mr. Henry Gray and Mr. Clarence Fryer of Pine Bloom was among friends at Leliaton yesterday. The infant of Mr. and Mrs. McCranie of this place died yesterday. Mr Ed Foxworth of the place is standing back on his dew claws. Now what the cause.is we cannot say but rather think some girl has smiled at him. Mr Charley Stevens was out horse back riding yesterday and back ed his horse from un;ler him. Bad, Charley, you should be careful how you ride. Miss Edna Sweat of this place visit ed friends in Waycross a few days ago. Miss Edna is a beautiful girl. Miss Bessie Gray the daughter of Mr. G. W. Gray was elected organist by the Baptis' Sunday school yester day. Miss Bessie is a beautiful girl and performs well on the organ. Superior Court has been iti session all the week and the town has been crowded with people, Much business has been transacted and many of the old cases were disposed of. In Judge Sweat’s charged to the grand jury he especially stressed the law on carrying concealed, weapons selling liquor against the law, and keeping up the roads and bridges. Solicitor Brantley had to ccme over from Pearson and just did arrive in time to form the grand jury Monday morning. I believe that the people like Col. Brantley better than they do any man who ever came to this court. They love him. The grand jury returned a bill against i\ J. McDonald for manslaughter. The State postponed the case and Mc- Donald’s counsel made a demand for trial at next term. Pursuit was quickly instituted by the marshall, sheriff and a posse of men and the county’s blood hounds, but John was swift of foot and got across, Seventeen creek before the dogs caught up with him and, they soon returned and the chase was abandoned. Lott of the McDonald & 1 tong las road was i a Douglas Monda y in the interest of a telephone for McDonald and Douglas The Waycross Telephone Cos. lots its line already to Waresboro and Mr. Lott thinks that a sufficient number of telephone subscribed for at McDon ald and Douglas will induce the com pany to extend its line on up to these places. Mr. Lott obtained the .prom ise of eight phones here and six at- Mc- Donald and along the line of road. A telephone or telegraph is almost indispensible at Douglas and our peo ple bail its advent with much pleasure. Crib J lurried. On Wednesday about three o’cl ode the corn crib of Mr. Joe Paterson who lives about four miles from Douglas was destroyed by fire The crib ban about 250 bushels com in it, and the whole was a. total loss. It is supposed that the crib was set on fire as there wa,s no oilier probable way for it to catch. Deduced l'.ates. Mr. Walter Lott requests us to say that the McDonald and Douglas road will give a rate of one cent a mile to the delegates to the Sunday school convention which convenes at Doug las 10, 11, and 12, of April, There is a collard stalk near Mill wood that is 7$ feet high, and Rev. On account of crowded columns last week we had to omit notice of the marriage of Mr. Joseph Myres to Miss Lula Dart of Brunswick. Mr. Myers is one of the sterling young men of of Coffee county in the employ of Tim mons &Cos near Leliaton, and Miss Dart is one of Brunswick’s most excel lent and charming young daughters.
