Last Thursday night William liar
dee, a negro living at Kemp’s still
eight miles cast of Dntighis. was lynch
ed by a party of unknown men.
It seems that about a we k be ft re,
the negro had some trouble with a
young white boy in the settlement
and had choked him. On the night
of the lynching about ten o’clock a
crowd of men called at the negro’s
house and demanded that he come
out. The nog o b came frightened
and beg ll to shoot his pistol at the
door. A fus:lade soon became gen
eral and tier irr.o finding it too hot
in the Louse, ran out and tried to
make his escape, but a load of buck
shot stopped him before he ran very
far.
This in su's mice i- what was told
by his wife.
It is thought that a party of the
white boy’s friends went to the house
with the intention of giving the negro
a whipping for hs m’ treatnv’:it of
the boy. and when ho opened tire on
the :rowd they in turn shot him and >wn.
