VOL. VII. LOCAL NEWS Lige Sapp is quite sick at the Peter son lions . Dr. Jno. Hall of Wilcox was in the city Tuesday. Mr. W. P. Ward went to Jackson ville Wednesday. Mrs. Hough and son Eason of Wil cox were in town Thursday. Bud Vickers caught two of the big gest trout of the season Saturday. The City court tried live criminal cases this week and convicted four. Miss Ella Denton returned from Denton Monday where she spent sev eral days. J.lts Lott caught the finest string of trout last Saturday we have seen this season. \ iss Alipli M inchew of Denton has "been spending the week with Miss Ella Denton. Rev. J. W. News reaches us that Mrs. Jno. bus B el of Kirkland was taken suddenly ill Sunday with something like 'paral ysis. We trust that she is better by this writing. Kirkland, spent Saturday and Sun day in Douglas. Let everybody get ready for the big celebration at Broxton on the 21th. The Masons are preparing to give the people of the county a gteat treat ano it is desired that everybody shall come, bring their baskets and join in the festivities of the occasion. The pro gram has on it some splendid enter tainment. Bead it in this issue, The picnic at Spring Lake Satur day was the most enjoyable occasion of its kind we have attended this sea son. Indeed, we do not remember a picnic since the days of rollicking boyhood that afforded us more real pleasure. Ben Peterson is responsible for tlie greater part of, in that he liad prepaied everything imaginable to eat and that in abundance at bis own expense. . In addition to the presence of many of our own sweet girls, ali the Kirkland young ladie3 were in attend ance and there is not a jollier crowd under the sun than they. The whole affair was Gae of solid fun. THE DOOGIAS BREEZE. T. J. McDonald Dead. Mr. T. J, McDonald is dead. lie breathed his last on Saturday at 12 o’clock a t this place. For some weeks he ha been ailing with the measles and three days be fore his death he wis siezed with a violent case of dysent ry and his strength was not sufficient to brook him through it. With the death of Mr. McDonald e ids one of the sad tragedies oi life. He was the same who was indicted for manslaughter by the last grand jury for the killing of George McDon ald at Parkonia on Christmas day. Mr. McDonald was quiet, inoffen sive man and the fact that he was able to give a $7,000,00 bond is sufficient proof that people trusted him. His case has gone to a higher court where there is a just Judge who judges according to our motives and who considers our frame which He knows to Lc du*t. Mr McDonald leaves a wife and six children with whom we deeply sympathize. The VVaycross Steam Laundry pays the express both ways on work sent tnem. Philip’s Mill. Mr. J. X. Partin of Judson Fla. has accepted a position in the reparing shops at this place. John is a clever young mau. Ho has been engaged in the shop business in Florida for the last three yeais and understands his business. Our school will, soon be out, and the close will be an interesting occa sion to all interested in the advance ment of the children. D E Gaskin’s. Bj? JgL JS dlrs. Hutchison Demi. On last Sunday at her home near Mr. Henry Vickers’, Mrs. John Hutch ison passed away after one day’s ill ness. On Saturday she was taken with a severe pain in the head and this con tinued till Sunday morning when Dr. Sibbett was sent for. He went out to see her and arrived about twelve o’clock. A few minutes before he walked in the house, Mrs. Hutchi son turned over ou her side and ap peared to get easy. Her husband sat by the bedside and an old granny held her hand. When the doctor walked in lie was tol l that she was easy and had gone to sleep. Too surely was this true; for when betook her hand to feel of her pulse, lo she was dead! Her pain was easy and she was sleeping her last long sleep. Mrs. Hutchison was about forty vears old and leaves a husband and i huge family of children. Denton. We regret to note the loss by fire of Mr. Sam Tedder’s house, which occurr ■d on Saturday night last. Nearly all his house and kitchen furniture was diotroyed. It is thought to have been incendiary. The many friends of Mrs. Jack Ward, will be pleased to lear that she is rapidly improving. The house at Friendship Church would not hold the people last Sun day. Mrs, Jno. R. Overman is spending a while in our neighborhood witn her sister, Mrs, George Taylor. Mr. Jno. Miuchew returned home from school last week. Crops are needing rain very badly. J i m. Muetiny at Rocha Road. I expect to conduct a meeting of several days, commencing on Friday night b fore the third Sunday in this lost, at Rocky Pond, 3 miles from Douglas.
