MY MOTHER’S HOME.
Ob, curry inn back to my imtlvo short,
For my heart is sail and louo,
And ere I die left no ya/.i* once more
On my mother’s cottajjo home.
Oh, bear m back to tho quiet shudo
Of the well l.nown trysting tree,
To the babbling stream and thoNunny glade,
Tho haunts of my childhood's glee.
My spirit pines for my mother's lovo
And tho grasp of her door right hand,
Ami to fed oneo more ulTootion's kiss
From tho joyous household bund.
Then bear mo back to my natives short*
For my heart is sad and lone,
Ami ero I dio let me g.uo once moro
On my mother's cottage homo.

in Atlanta this week.
Pour of Mr. Dan Lott’s brothers
will vote against him for Representa

A big democratic rally with a barbe
cue accompaniment will be held at
Nichols Oct. ,’>. Everybody invited.
Tho acreage of Sea island cotton is
said to be twenty-live per cent greater
than last year, though it is believed
that the yield will be less.
The Nichols Democratic Club’s rally
and barbecue will be a liugh affair.
Preparations are being made for the
accommodation of a large crowd.
Elias Pott's card in to-day's Breeze
clinches the arguments we have used
to show that Mr. Dan Lott v r. came
out in direct opposition to his brother.
Mr. Wiggles—Didn't I toll you not

know, and today he asked me when

Mrs. Wiggles (indignantly) I

TELEPHONE EAR.
How It Is Produced ami Way, In Which
It May Arcidcd.
Have you tho telephone ear?
If you uso tho telephone throe or
moro times a day, tho probabilities
aro you have it, though it may net
have occurred to you. But if you
bo past 30 years of age, you havo al
ready noticod a difference between
the right and tho left ear in acuta
ness of the sense of hearing. Thero
is little doubt, now that your atten
tion is called to it, that you will ro
inemher your left ear is a triflo
keener in matters of hearing than is
your right. Not when you are lis
tening over tho wire; but, when in an
ordinary conversation with the
noises of the street about you or tho
hum of business in office or shop or
the buzz of talk in tho parlor, you
will bond forward a little and in
cline tiio left ear to the speech of
your friend. You have the tele
phone oar and haven’t noticed it.
What is tho cause of it? The tele
phone. Arranged as it is, with tho
receiver at tho loft hand, you can
not well uso it excepting at the left
car. You press the black muzzle of
the receiver close to tho ear, tho
speech of year correspondent agi
tates tho diapliram at liis end of the
lino, and tho waves of air gently
strike upon tho drum of your oar,
and what ono of tho aufists of Chi
cago calls massage takes place. Your
ear is subjected to tho same knead
ing process that is so beneficial when
wisely applied to the flesh or mus
cles of any other part of the body.
And tho effect of it is an increase in
tho sense of hearing in that ear.
At tho telephone oxohango tho
girls are instructod to change tho
receiver from ono oar to tho other
three or four times a day. For one
thing, it is a rest to the operator. If
one ear were used exclusively by
the operator, in time there would bo
so distinct a difference in tho acuto
noss of tho hearing between tho loft
and right sides that the operator
would bo practically incapacitated
for a oliango. There would bo an
abnormal development at ono side
at the expense of tlio other.
“I do not think tho electrical effect
is felt,” said Dr. Edward T. Dicker
man, whoso specialty is diseases of
the ear. “It is little if anything
more than a gentle massag'o of the
uiombrano of the oar. Ami in all
cases except whore the affection is
catarrhal in its character and had
affected what is called the interior
ear tho use of tho telephone will
produce a honefloial effect. 1 never
know a person to be injuriously af
fected by the uso of that instru
ment, and I certainly havo known
numerous oases whoro it Lad a good
effect.”
In Germany tho telephonos aro ar
ranged with a double receiver, and
each oar of the operator in the sta
tions is provided with one. Tho
sound is delivered equally in each
ear. In such case thero is no vary
ing result. Botli oars become equally
acute. If tho general patron of tho
telephone in America woro to uso
such a contrivance there would bo
no phenomenon like the “telephone
ear. ’’ —Chicago Times-llerald.

“I am going (o bo married,” said
Miss Trotter to Miss Kittisli.
“You! Y’ou going to bo married!
I thought you wero an inveterate
man hater, who wouldn’t marry tlio
best man in the world.”
“Y'es, but that was beforo ono of
the horrid men had proposed to mo. ”
