THE DOUGLAS BREEZE. AI-HKHT C. SWEAT, Kditor ami I’iililinlicr. Entered at Douglas P. 0. May 29, IS9O as econil class mail matter. SATURDAY AUG. 13, 1898. Che freeze Is The Official Organ of The County Commissioners, The Board of Education And the Town of Douglas. State Democratic Ticket. For Governor of Georgia. ALLEN 1). CANDLER, Secretary of state, Phillip Cook. Comptroller general, W. A. Wright. Commissioner agriculture, O. B. Stevens. State school commissioner, G. R. Glenn. Attorney General, J. M. Terrell. Prison commissioner, J. S. Turner. Treasurer. Win. Spear. For Chief Justice, Thomas J. Simmons. For Associate Justice for full term of six years, William H. Fish, For Associate Justice for un expired term of two years. Henry T. Lewis, For Congressman, W. G. Brantley. For State Senator, R. G. Dickerson. Every democrat in Collet) county must register. Keep your eye ou Douglas and watch her grow! Coll'eo county lias twenty-five sons at Santiago, Cuba. Sam Jones says a pop is a democrat with the devil in him. Populism was completely knocked out in Alabam last week. The democrats of Coffee will put out their strongest men this year. A great many things will happen in Douglas within the next six months. The populists are trying to get a re publican to run against Wili Brantley this time. A great many people say the new populist ticket is no improvement on the old one. J. M. Thomas of Surrency has refus ed the populist nomination for repre sentative from Appling. He says he is a democrat. General Blauco touchingly refers to Cuba as “the island which Spain dis covered, peopied and civilized,” two thirds of which is true. We may not need the Philippines, hut we'll hold them till Spain agrees to give up Cuba, Porto Rico, Ladrones and the City of Manila. It is the DUTY of every democrat in Codec county to patronize the Breeze. We need and must have the patronage of our friends. A Republican ticket would add con siderable interest to the campaign. If the republicans could get together they could slip in between the demo crats and populists. One of the most amusing cusses in the weole universe is the fellow who is continually remarking that “the newspapers are liars.” We always re mind him that the newspapers do not print half the lies that are told to them by bis class. Be sure and register! Committee Call. The Democratic Executive Com mittee and the Sub-Commttteemen of each district are requested to meet at Douglas on Monday, Aug ust 22nd, at 11 o’clock a. in. A full attendance is desired. Important matters to he considered. F. Willis Dart, Chairman. Thus singeth the editor of the Douglas Breeze; “From tailors’ hills, doctors’ pills— deliver us. From want of gold, wives that scold, maidens old and widows bold—deliver us. From seedy coats, protested notes, hilly goats and sink ing boats—deliver us. From modest girls with waving curls and teeth like pearls—deliv—no, never mind.” The above has been reproduced by nearly all of our exchanges. The Dalton Argus “Devil” thinks the following about it, Well, I don’t imagine that a coun try editor has to pray to be delivered from may pretty girls. Country edi tors are too doggone poor to be much sought after. The other counts in the indictment hold good. The Gaskin Spring campmeeting commences on the first Monday in September. The pops of Coffee are moving heavon and earth to capture the ne gro vote. The war is ended! Some men let their subscriptions run for four or five years and then get as mad as the old Harry if the newspaper man wants his money. They have read it all the time, and cussed when they missed a copy, and then, when asked to pay will lie like a blue streak and swear that they have never subscribed for the paper, and never wanted it. There may not boa real burning hades, but there ought to be some sort of a place for the accomodation of some men. The Sure Ini Gripp Cure. I gave it such remedies as usually given in such cases, hut as nothing gave relief, we sent for a phy sician and it was under his care for a week. At this time the child had been sick for about ten days and was having about twenty-five operations of the bowels every twelve hours, and we were convinced that unless it soon obtained relief it would not live. Chamberlain’s Colic, Cholera and Diar rhoea Remedy was recommended, and 1 decided to try it, I soou noticed a a change for the better; by its contin ued use a complete cure was brought about and it is now perfectly healthy. —C L.
