A One-Sided Town.
A fown in its infancy will naturally
grow the moa# in the direction the
cheapest land lies, awl often on this
account becomes one-sided, General
ly a town, when it is the cmiuty-&He
*ls Douglas is l wilj grow the jnoet, put,
up the hfeat stores, residences, etc.,
ground or near tire courthouae, when
land can he-had ag cheaply in ♦direr
.di rations, and tbigj idea is perhaps
foremost in the heads of the founders
and tire leading lights when a town
is laid ,off, but when cheaper land is
■offered Ore growth of a place often di
verges, goes in another direction, and
the first or oldest part of the town m
It# in the lurch, only good for resi
dences., For instance,, look at Way
cibss. The oldest part of tlie town is
prettiest, but the hotels, banks,
ami principal business
houses are nearly all in nerv Way cross.
Thifv’vilt be the case here, too, ff land
is not offered ftt reasonable prices—as
reasonable, ioeaUou considered, as'it
can he bought in other parts of the
town, Of the location controls
prices in the sale of real estate, hut
we do hope the land owners will adopt
prices that will give the town an even
growth all over.
