John E. Gibson, travelling agent of
the Macon Telegraph, was in Douglas
Wednesday, in the interest of his
daily, one of the best in Georgia.
Douglas can boast of having as few
loafers as any other town its size in
Southern Georgia. Almost every one
is busy at some kind of labor.
We would thank our friends and
readers to send or bring us all items
of news they may have, of interest,
preaching appointments, funprals, pic
nics, etc.
And so we flipped up on the Har
mony Grove entertainment, we
could not make the connection from
Waycross and get back to Douglas,
too.

Sunday Riding on the Train.
Two weeks ago the manage
ment of tlio Air-Line lly., put
on a Sunday train between this
city and Waycross, and the pop
ularity of the venture is shown
by the crowded condition of the
one coach used last Sunduy.
There was only one man on the
train that we found that was
there for pleasure—all on urgent
husiposs, going to *ee the sick,
going to church j going home to
spend the Sabbath with their
families. In this we think the
“Sunday Flyer” a success, and
we are pleased to know it is the
intention of §upt, Bomnoynaan
to put on, in a short time, anoth
er ooach. Jt is argued that
Sunday travel is sinful and do*
moralising, and some of those
who have advanced this argu-
ment will hitch up a horse in a
set of hot harness, drive a few
miles to phurcli, hitch the horso
to a fence or tree in the shade or
in the snn, all day, leaving the
annual to titarve for water and
food, harrassed and bitten by
flies, actually suffering more than
if at work in the field, for their
individual pleasure. An Ollgiue
js fired up by ono man, controlled
by another, superintended by a
conductor, aided by a porter,
four men in all, for the benefit
of the public, and accommoda
ting from fifty to ope hundred
people. When it goes to a point
of argument the Sunday train is
the most humane, but it Is the
best plan to attend to business
and pleasure affairs in the week,
still, between the two give us the
engine in place of an old sore
back, fly-hara?sed horse.
An exchange notes that a woman
up in Ohio advertised for a hus
band. Sin# secured one at a total
cost of less than ton dollars. Re
fer* marriage lie deeded hor a mad
est little cottage home, and after
wards enlisted in the army and
wat killed at Manilla. The wid
uiv reeieved $.*5,000 life insurance
and will get a pension from the
government as long as she lives.
Still there are people who say it
don’t pay to adyertise.
