PETITION FOR CHARTER.
To thk Hon, Philip Cook.
Secretary of State, State of Georgia:
The petition of the undersigned,
whose names and residences are here
inafter fully set-forth, respectfully
shows:
Fj rß t_T)iat they desire to be incor
porated as provided in the acts of the
Legislature of Georgia of 1892, and the
amendatory acts thereof since that date
regulating the incorporation of raii
jaiad companies.
Second —They desire for themselves,
tlieirfsuccessors and associates to be
incorporated under the name and style
of the Oif'ermati and Western Railroad
Company.
Third—The Railway contemplated in
this petit i'. ion for charter to be about
forty miles in length, beginning, at
Otferman, in the county of Pierce, on
the south, and running in northerly
and westerly direction through the
counties of Pierce, Appling and Cof
fee, in said state and haying
as its Southern or Eastern termi
nus the town of Otferman and as its
Northern or Western terminus the town
of Nicholls, in Coffee county, Georgia.
Fourth—That the capital stock of
said Railroad company shall be not
less than one hundred and fifty thous
and dollars, nor 10 more than two
hundred thousand dollars, the same „o
consist of common stock.
Fifth—That they desire the charter
of said Railroad Company to continue
for and during the term of one hun
dred and one years, as allowed by law .
Sixth—That the principle offices of
said Railroad Company shall he located
in the town of Otferman, in the county
of Pierce, said State.
Seventh—Your petitioners declare
that they do intend, in good faith, to go
forward without delay and secure sub
scriptions to tin 1 capital stock, con
struct, equip, maintain and operate said
Railroad,
Eighth—Your petitioners further
show that they have given four weeks
notice of their intention to apply for
charter by publication of this petition
in the following news papers, viz:
The Ulackshear Times, lllaekshear, Ga.
the legal organ of Pierce county, Bax
ley Banner, Baxley, Ga. the legal organ
of Appling county; and the Douglas
Breeze, Douglas, Ga. the legal organ
of Coffee county; said news papers be
ing the ones in which the Sheriffs’ ad
vertisements are published, through
which the Railroad contemplated in
this petition is proposed to be run.

Georgia, is this day dissolved by mu
tual consent, Mr. Hucka retiring,

will sittle all the firm liabilities, and
receipt for all debts due said firm,

gia; and also for authority to build
an extension, or branch railroad, from
Rixville, a point on the main line of
said railroad, in manual county, Geor
gia, to the city of Valdosta, in
Lowdnes county, Goergia, in compli
ance with, resolutions heretofore pass
ed by the Board of Directors of said
Railroad Company, of which the fol
lowing are copies:
Whereas, the stock holders of The
Wadley & Mount Vernon Railrod Com
pany, in meeting assembled, did, on
the 2nd, day of June, 1899, resolve to
extend the line of said railroad from
Wadley. in Jefferson county, Georgia,
to the city of Augusta, in Richmond
county, Georgia, to the city of Valdos
ta, in Lowdnes county, Georgia, and
Whereas, it is deemed expedient,
and for the best interests of said rail
road company, that its railroad be ex
tended from Wadley, Georgia, to Au
gusta, Georgia, as above indicated:
and that said branch road be built
from Rixville, Georgia, to the city of
Valdosta, Georgia as indicated in said
stockholders’ resolutions:
Therefore, it is hereby resolved, by
the Board of Directors of said Railroad
company, that the above recited resolu
tions of the stockholders of said Com
pany be, and the same are hereby con
curred in by the Directors thereof.
It is further Resolved, By the Board
of Directors, that The Wadley & Mount
Vernon Railroad, be extended by
building its line from Wadley Jeffer
son county, Georgia, through the coun
ties of Jefferson, Burke and Richmond,
or any or all of said counties as may
be, by the Directors of said Company,
deemed most feasable and to the best
interests of said railroad company,
to the city of Augusta, in Richmond
county, Georgia.
The length of said extension of said
railroad, as near as can be estimated,
w’ill be about St miles; and the general
direction of same will be Northeast,
through the counties above named, or
any. or all of them, from Wadley, in
Jefferson county, Georgia, to the city
of Augusta, in Richmond county,
Georgia.
It is further resolved, By the Board
of Directors of said Railroad company,
that a branch railroad be built from
Rixville, a point on the line of The
Wadley & Mount Vernon RaiirAad,
through the counties of Emanuel,
Laurens. Dodge, Telfair, Wilcox, Cof
fee, Irwin, Berrien and Lowndes, or
any or all of said counties, as may be
by the Directors of said branch rail
road company, deemed most feasible,
and to the best interest of The Wadley
& Mount V.rnon Railroad Company,
to the city of Valdosta, in Lowndes
county, Georgia. The length of said
branch railroad, as near as can be es
timated, will be about 140 miles; and
the general direction of same will be
southwest, through the counties above
named, or any or all of them, from
Rixville, in Emanuel county Georgia,
to the city of Valdosta, in Lowndes
county, Georgia.
It is further resolved, By said Board
of Directors, that notice of the build
ing of the extension of said railroad
from Wadley, Georgia, to the city of
Augusta, Georgia, as above designated
be given by publication of t.'.ese reso
lutions once a week, for four weeks,
in the newspaper in which the sheriff’s
advertisements are published in each
of the counties through whieh said ex
tension of said railroad will probably
( run, prior to the time the right to build
said extension is sought to be exer
cised.
Resolved further, That notice of the
building of the branch railroad above
designated, from Rixville, Georgia,
to the city of Valdosta, Georgia, be
given by publication of these resolu
tions once a week, for four weeks, in
the newspaper in which the Sheriff's
advertisements are published, in each
of the counties through which said
railrord will probably run prior to
| the time the right to build said branch
| railroad is sought to be exercised,

tions be entered in the records of the
proceedings of th's Board of Directors.

Sealed Proposals for Completion of
Coffee County’s Courthouse
Called For.
GEORGIA—Coffee County.
Notice is hereby Riven that sealed pro
posals for the completion of the new court
bouse for said countv, addressed to “C. A.
Ward, chairman Board of Commissioners
of roads and revenues for Coffee county,
Douglas, Georgia., with the indorsement
of “Proposal for completing new
Court House,” and with the name
of the party submitting the pro
posal written acrwss the seal of the envel
ope, will be recieved by the Board of Com
missioners of roads and revenues for said
county, up to and including Monday noon
July 21th, 1899, at which time the same
will be opened by the board and the con
tract for the completion of the court house
aforesaid, awarded to the lowest and
best bidder threfor, said board reserving
the right to reject any and all bids.
The said building to be a two story brick
court house, with slate rpof and metal
cornices, fire proof vaults, court room,
jury rooms and other rooms necessary for
county purposes, to be erected and com
pleteif upon the work recently done in the
construction thereof by T. (‘. Thompson &
Bros., the excavations being completed,
foundations all In. first story Hour joists set
and rough floor la>d thereon, and the out
side walls finished scaffold high, or about
five and a half feet above first floor; the
work of completing said building to be
done in accordance with the plans and
specifications as made by .Andrew J. Bry
an 1 k Cos. and adopted by said board and
now on file in their office at Douglas. Ga.
complete and iniuute specifications of the
same being posted conspicuously in said
office open to the inspection of the public.
The said work to he done and the court
house aforesaid completed and delivered
to said board, within ninety days from the
date of awarding and letting out the con
tract aforesaid. A certified check of $590.
must accompany each bid to be forfeited
to the county upon failure to make the
bond.
The payments therefor to he made in
cash, monthly on estimates of the architect,
out of the annual current revenues of said
county to he provided for by said board,
and a sufficient tax levied and collected
therefor.
The party to whom the contract shall be
let, to give hond in double the amount of
the bid with tw good and solvent securi
ties for the faithful performance of the
contract and to indemnify the county for
any damage occasioned bv the failure to
perforin the same within the prescribed
time.
