The condemnation of Dreyfus,

This is an old decision putting it

that he slnjll not buy, steal, cook or

Over in Blakely the negroes had
a “beauty show,” and one of
them became so angry with the

the prize for beauty, that he shot

It is said the president of the
court-martial that found a verdict
of guilty against Dreyfus trembled
when he read the verdict of guilty,
llis country is in a trembling con

deserves to fall.

The Savannah News remarks
that should Dreyfus go to England
to live, the probabilities are that
Esterhuzy would have to get out
of that country. With Dreyfus in
fairly good health, England would
hardly be large enough to hold both
him and the man who has caused
him so much suffering.
The dispatches inform us that a
man by name of Dudley killed Jim
Smith and Berry O’Kelly, at Gains-
ville, Ga., last Tuesday night.
The cause assigned for the tragedv
is the intimacy of the two murder
ed men with Dudley's wife. Dud
ley escaped and should not be
molested.*

Our Choice.
The Waycross Journal has nom
inated for solicitor of this judicial
circuit the present incumbent, Jno.
W. Bennett, und has started rather
a vigorous campaign, considering
the election for that position to be
yet so far away.
We think it rather early to begin
to stir the politics for judicial
officers of this circuit and as Dan
Sweat is anything but a pol
itician we are of the opinion that
he is not the instigator of the arti- |
cles that have been appearing in
his columns favoring the honorable
solictor. However, if it be in or
der to say nice things about men
who would grace the very respon
sible position in question, we our
selves would take time by the fore
lock and put in nomination a can
didate whom Coffee county would
endorse to a man, and who would,
in our judgement fill the place bet
ter than any man in the district.
The gentleman in question is Judge
Willis Dart, of the City court of
Coffee county.
We have not consulted Judge
Dart about this publication, neith
er have we ever heard him mention
ed for the place, nor has he so far
as we know ever mentioned or
thought of it, still that is only one
of the many graces that commend
him to us for the place.
Judge Dart is, to our personal
and long standing knowledge, one
of the purest, ablest and most con
scientious lawyers with whom we
ever had close acquaintance. His
attainments as a lawyer are far
above the average of the profes
sion and his splendid stock of com
mon sense eminently fit him for
the position. By close study ap
plication and a three years expe
rience on the bench he has attain
ed a technical and general knowl
edge of law second to none in
Southern Georgia, and his scrupu
lous desire to be just has made him
pains-taking and considerate in the
smallest as well as greater matters.
He is essentially a legal lawyer,
having had no ambition for politics
and his character has none of that
time serving jobber)' or vulgar
compromise so characteristic of the
political lawyer.
Judge Dart’s private life is as
clean as his public service and no
man can accuse him justly of an
ugly deed. He is high toned, hon
est, and devout in nature and as a
circuit prosecutor would more
nearly fill Mr. Brantley’s vacancy
than any man we know.
