Crazy Plate in a Dish-pan.
A certain lady not far front our
office, piled her dishes suddenly in
to a pan of hot water last Sunday
morning, to wash them, and as she
washed removed them, but when
the last one was reached it wouldn’t
move. She pulled but the plate
stuck; she spat in her hand and
pulled again but it wouldn’t budge.
She was frightened and looked un
der the table to see if a man had a
hand run up through the table and
floor, but there was none. Then a
young man was called, and he gave
the plate and pan a tussle, and as
the plate came up a thin cloud of
steam puffed up out of the water.
'l'llis explained all, the plate had
been held by suction, caused by
the confinement of the steam be
tween the plate and pan. The lady
was anxious to keep the affair secret
and wc wouldn’t say a word ibout
it where it would get out for
anything.

A movement is on foot, pretty
well endorsed by the weekly press
of Georgia, to more fully advertise
the vast resources of the state, that
are now lying idle. The move
mentis a good one, and is to he
brought to a success by the publi
cation of a descriptive pamphlet
which will be circulated broadcast
over the land. The Georgia Week
ly I’ress Association, at its late
session endorsed certain plans for
this work submitted by Brobson,
Fendig \ Cos,, of Brunswick, real
estate agents, by the unanimous
passage ot the following resolution :
"lie it resolved, That we most
heartily endorse the plan to better
advertise Georgia which was re
cently suggested by Mr. Edwin
Brobson, of Brunswick : That the
state, through its agricultural de
partment. issue a pamphlet full up
to-date correct statistics of the re
sources ot Georgia, and that bv ad
vertising it be made known that
the said pamphlet can be obtained
free.

In one of Macon’s churches a
sensation was caused by a mistake
in administering the sacramental
wine. The minister went to the
church before services and forgot
to take his bottle of wine with him.
He sent his (laughter for it; she,
through mistake*, got a bottle of hor
rible tasting bitters that had been
put up in the same kind of bottle.
The mistake was not difeovered
until some of those around the altar
disturbed the usual order of things
by the cry that they had been pois
oned. The minister explained, af
ter investigating, and pleaded with
his cong::gallon to keep the mat
ter out of the newspapers.

A Fable.
A donkey stepped into a store
one day and asked for the proprie
tor, who walked out of his private
office to meet him, but was sur
prised to see a donkey in his store.
“Why tire you here?” lie asked.
“You know this is no place for a
donkey.”
“I am here,” said the donkey,
“because I saw your advertisement
on the fence that surrounds my pas
ture. I knew that you, too, must
have been a donkey, or you would
have placed (lie ad in your county
paper, where it would be read by
the people, and not donkeys. Be
