It i« understood that the interstate
commerce law docs not interfere with
the rights and privileges of the Geor¬

will be full of Grover Clevelands.

President Cleveland, it is reported,
will attend the first exhibition ot the
Piedmont Fair Association, which
contes off in Atlanta in the near fu¬
ture. lie will receive a cordial wel¬
come, and could come to no better
place to meet the entire South face to j
face.
In another year those of us who are
alive will he writing 1888 at the top
of our letters. Attention has boon
railed to the ITet that the triple use of
figures in annual dates will not again
occur until 1911, and only seven times
thereafter until thequadruple demand
hi t Ikj year 2222. But this is borrow¬
ing trouble.
The next Georgia State fair will
open at Central City Park, Macon, on
ttie 2Ith of October and continue one
week. Cash premiums to the amount
of $12,000 lu\7B been*ottered by the so¬
ciety, anti a huge number of liberal
special premium* have been added to
the list. The premium list is in
course of publication, and will soon tie
issued to the people. i
“TIIK Sl’NNY SM TIL”
The people of the State are (it may
he considered as a matter of course)
hi itch attached to the country and ac¬
customed to refer to it always iu
terms of highest appreciation,'“The I
Siintty South,” “The Land of the I
Sun” “The Finc*t Land the Sun
Shine# on” “The Garden Spot of the
World.” These expressions arc not
uiilrequent. Many northern men have
endorsed them. Men suid who that have travel- taking j
cd extensively have :
it all m all, it is one of the finest
countries to live iu.
The land is not so l icit as in some
sections, but ill health usually a c
rouipanies very rich Ihnd, yet one :

there will he a reliable quantity |
of products, both for supplies and for
sale; for home comforts and abund

ground working for them all the time,

BEST COMMERCIAL SITE ON THE
CONTINENT.
Georgia, it will he observed, is the
keystone Of the arch formed by the
grand curve of the Atlantic states on
one side, and the Gulf slates on the
other. Tito best commercial silo on
Hie continent is undoubtedly North
America—not South. Il must he
found on the At’antie—not on the Pa
oTtfe, which is too remote, it must
not be on the Gulf coast, which has a
difficult navigation but on the Atlan¬
tic, fully open to tlie sea.
The determining criterion is the
trade of the great Mississippi valley.
Kverv Atlantic stale has ample laeili
ties for its own immediate trade. The
derisive criterion of the best com met*
eial site is the relative adaptation tor
1 he trade of the great valley. Georgia
occupies this position, Geographic*
ally, s!:n is on the shortest line; topo
graphically, on the most feasible; cli
matieally, on the line least obstructed
by iet*. ’This fine position nature has
aligned Iter by placing her below the
great AppalacHaw chain, which more
than . a Chinese ... wall .. separates the .
ocean front the great valley-. This
backbone of tire continent, rising in
Canada, terminates iu Alabama and
Georgia. Here tor the first time the

passed through, and all for his one

finite mind can but faintly appreciate.
To die the. cursed death of the cross,
a sacrifice to God for our sins, the
spotless Lamb of God suffering untold,
unconceivable agony of soul as well as
body, to purchase eternal redemption
for lost man, is Love such as will cuusc
unceasing notes of praise to ascend
from every soul which lias thus been

Peaches plucked green and "sent off

Still, the fact stands, and will stand,
that taking a belt of country, begin

drawn on that parallel to the Savannah
