MAYOR.
Section 1. It ehall be the duly of
flic Mayor to bold his courts as often
as be may think necessary, and shall
have cognizance ot all offenses against
tho ordinances ot said town with pow¬
er to inflict a proper punishment by
lines or Imprisonment, or other penal¬
ty prescribed by the ordinances of said
town, from tunc to time; shall approve
nil claims for work done or material
furnished for (streets in said town ; and
paid court shall have power to fino or
* commit to jail any person or persons
who may in any manner disturb said
court during its sittings, or in any
manner be in contempt of its authori¬
ty ; and iu his absence or disqualifica¬
tions said duties shall he performed by
such Aldermen as shall be designated
by the council; and to^preside at all
meetings of the council, and to call
meetings of the council when in his
opinion tho interest of the town re¬
quites it.
2d. The Mayor shall keep a docket
of all cases tried by him, showing the
disposition of such case.
ALDERMEN.
3d. It shall be the duty of the Alder¬
men to meet at the council chamber at
all meetings of the council for the pur¬
pose of transacting any business re¬
lating to the interest of the town orits
citizens, and to serve upon such stand¬
ing and special committees as they
may be placed.
CLERK AND TREASURER.
4th. It shall he the duty of tho Clerk
nnd Treasurer to attend all meetings
«>f the council and keep a minute of
all the proceedings, and to issue all
licenses, notices, writs and processes
required by the Mayor, council and the
ordinances and laws relating’to said
town. <
5th. Ho shall keep a tax book in
which shall be entered as received
From the tax payers, all property sub¬
ject to taxation at its true market val¬
ue, with the party’s name and amount
due thereon, and collect the same in
accordance with the ordinances of said
town.
6ih. He shall keep a book in which
shall be entered the different amounts
of money received, who trom and for
avliat purpose—keeping the street fund
separate from the general funds, and
hhall not payoutany funds except tip
on orders drawn upon that fund, and
then according to their dates,

editions and processes issued, against
whom, when, the amount and for
what purpose.
8th. He shall furnish the marshal 5 1

of all parties subject to street duty.

ty to summon a posse ot the citizens
of said town in case it be necessary to
enforce any of the ordinances; and in
caso they tail or refuse to obey said
summon, lie shall report all who re*
fuso or fail to act, to the Mayor. It
shall he his duty to visit the public
streets and highways in said town at
least once in each forty-eight hours,
and remove any nuisance or anything
that worketh hurt, incouvcr.iencc or
damage, affecting the health, the mor¬
als, or the safety of the town. lie shall
have p'ower and authority tocnlerany
enclosure, house, store or other build¬
ings, for the purpose of performing
his duty. Ho shall suppress any as¬
sembly engaged in boisterous, drunk¬
en, riotous or unlawful acts ot any
kind, whether under the name of
balls, parties or frolics.
12th. He shall attend workingofthe
streets under direction of the street
committee, and to notify all parties
subject to street duty of the time and
place of working, and the tools to be
used, and tarnish the Clerk with u list
of all defaulters, who shall be dealt
with by the Mayor, according to the
town. The salary of the Marshal shall
be $25 per mouth, and 50 cents as cost
for the arrest of any party in the day
time, and $1 in the night, followed by
conviction, to be paid by defendant.—
He shall further be required to per¬
form all tho duties in the ordinances
recited, apd shall not leave the town
without the consent of a majority of
tlie council; nor shall lie delegate to
any other his authority without con
gent of a majority of the town coun¬
cil And it shall further be the duty
of said Marshal to meet the day pas¬
senger trains running through said
j town,
BONDS OF CLERK AND TREASURER AND
MARSHAL.
13th. Immediately upon their elec¬
tion. the Clerk and Treasurer,and City
Marshal shall execute to the Mayor
and Aldermen and their successors in
office a bond—the Clerk and Treasurer
in the sum of $200, and the Marshal
in the sum of $200—to be approved by
the Mayor, conditioned by the faithful
discharge of their duties; and for a
violation of their duties shall he sub¬
ject to a fine of not less than $2.50 nor
more than $25 for each offense, by the
Mayor, and also may be, by the coun¬
cil, dismissed from the office,and shall
be subject to a suit upon said bond.
14th. Upon a failure of the Mayor
to attend the council, unless sufficient
excuse be rendered, he shall be fined
by the Aldermen in a sum ot not less
than $2.50, nof more than $10.
15th. Any two or more Aldermen,
upon the information on oath of any
tax payer, lor the breach of neglect ot
duty on the part of the Clerk and
Treasurer or Marshal, shall investi¬
gate said breach or neglect of duty,
after giving said Clerk and Treasurer
or Marshal five days nof ice of said in¬
vestigation; subpoenas for witnesses
shall he issued upon application of ei¬
ther party, and the party convicted
shall ho liable to such fines and costs
as tho court may impose.

DUTT OP THE TAX PAYER.
18th. It shall be the duty of all per¬
sons owuing property subject to taxa¬
tion to make a return thereof in per¬
son, or by agent, under oath to the
Clerk of all such real or personal prop¬
erty at its true market value, by the
first day of July, owned on the first
day of June, and to pay the tax there¬
on by the first day of October there¬
after.
19th. All parties who fail, or refuse
to tnakc returns by the specified time
shall be doubly taxed, and executions
issued therefor by the clerk.
GENERAL PROVISIONS.
20th. It shall be unlawful for any
person, without good and sufficient
reasons, or permission first obtained
from the marshal, to make, build or
have any fire in the streets, alleys or
enclosures, either in day or night time.
For every violation of this ordinance
the party or parties so offending, on
conviction shall be lined in a sum not
to exceed $20, or imprisonment not to
exceed ten days—or both, at the dis¬
cretion ot the court.
21st. Any person who after being
notified by the owner, or occupant, to
quit or leave the inclosed premises ol
another, not to visit said inclosed
premises, and shall disregard such no¬
tification, the same shall be held and
deemed an intruder, and, on convic¬
tion thereof be punished by a fine or
imprisonment or not more than twen¬
ty days, or both, at the discretion of
the Mayor.

4th. Indecent language or behavior.
5th. Loud and profane swearing.

7th. Resisting lawful arrest.

Bridge Notice.
There are to be two brides, the build¬
ing of which across Gum Swamp in said
county—one road on the Kastmna and Dublin
at the Sheffied ford, the other on the
