His Mind is Pied.
CVe publish with pleasure the opin
lone of our subscribers, as well as tbe
news from tlieir respective localities,
and in the premises would impress
uiron our readers the fact that all com¬
munications possessing any merit what¬
ever and from a respectable source shall
he published whether we indorse the
opinions or not. ‘County Banner”
has offered some valuable suggestions
from time to time on agricultural sub¬
jects, but we fear bis views on railroad¬
ing are somewhat distorted. In tlii
issue he pronounces the Central Rail¬
road and Banking Company a dog in
tiie lounger, but fails to point out sub¬
stantia! reasons leading to this serious
charge.
On the other hand there are strong j
evidences of good faith on the part of the !
< entral in building the Eden and Amer- ;
ieus extension. In the first place, the
conditions are favorable fora profitable
investment in it. It gives them not
only a fine local traffic, but opens up a
magnificent line from New York and j
other important Xorthcrn cities, and!

Finding’ that the obstacles emenated
from designing parties seeking boodle
rather than from the people of Georgia,
they proceeded with their enterprise.
It is quite natural that they would dis¬
courage competition, having purchased
a charter for the purpose of building at
au early date. We venture the asser¬

they not receive tho commendation of
those along the line who will be lien

with a word of discouragement in this
vicinity more especially ?
Probably if “County Farmer”
would investigate the subject more
t\u»roughly be would discover
more heneflls of the com m is
x^ioii than he ascribe* to it. Surely the
honorable citizens of Georgia selected
for that purpose would not perpetrate
gigantic fraud upon the people without
their knowledge. As to the newspaper
editors we speak authoritatively, they
pay in honest service for their pass priv¬
ilege, a thing the people should not be¬
grudge, since they, as well as the rail¬
roads, should feel under obligations to
them—a class of men sacrifice
pleasure and comfort for tHe g)> 0 ( 1 of
the public. Xow, if “County FiWmcr”

gigantic fraud we would have differed
only in the magnitude of the concern.
A Mad Dog.
The residence of Mr. W. F. Har
roll was the scene of a great com
motion on Saturday last, caused
by a mad dog. The dog was a pet
of the family and was thought to
lie harmless until Saturday, when
he ran at Mrs. llarrel and attempt
ed to bite her, when she with her
baby and maidservant ran into a
room and closed the doors. A
manservant was sent for Mr. Har
roll, who came and shot the rabid
canine three times with a pistol
before it was put to death. The
canine’s eyes were said to have
been as green as anyone could
imagine and sparkled having dogs like should a dia¬
mond. Those
be very cautious with them, and
at tho first signs of the rabies
they should put them to death.
