SO THIRD PARTY THERE.
Houstou County is Democratic
And "Will so Remain.
The Fort Valley correspondent
of the Macon Telegraph has the
following in refereuce to the third
party in Houston couutv:
Fort Valley, March 23.—The
special in yesterday's Telegraph
from Atlanta declaring the allegi
ance of 1,600 sub-alliances to the
new political party caused your
correspondent to interview' sever
al leading alliancemen on their
intention of leaving the demo
cratic party in case the county
alliance endorsed the St. Louis
platform and address, and they
were all emphatic in their replies,
“That the Houston county alii
ance would do nothing of the kind.
and in the event some of the ram
pant alliancemen who might de
sire to become prominent by join
ing a new party, they would be
ostracised by many of the true al
liancemen in the county and rele¬
gated into eternal political dark
ness, where they could nurse and
care for their inpirations without
any interruption throughout the
time allotted to man on this mun
dane sphere.”
Continuing, one said: “The state
alliance was organized at Fort
Valley, and I am an alliance man
through and through but when
olliceseekers try to persuade the
alliancemen into new parties to
further their own ends and polib
cal desires, I am again a plain de¬
mocrat, and feel sure that nine
tenths of the true alliancemen in
Houston county feel just as I do
about this third or new parly bus¬
iness. Several men have been
made groat in the eyes of the
country by riding into office on the
backs of the poor farmer by prom
ising to secure legislation that
would benefit them. Now look at
our condition atter two years’ trial ?
We are in a much worse condition
and so are those of every other
calling,as well as the railroads and
manufacturers. ”
“No, sir, I don’t think the alii
ancemen of this county will fol¬
low after any stray gods, but will
stick closer than ever to the demo¬
cratic party, and. if farmers in
other parts of Georgia want to
join the new party, 1 am one and
can name many others who Avill
help defeat them. ”
This expression was read to sev¬
eral alliancemen and they indors¬
ed it as their sentiments in toto.
When prominent alliancemen feel
this way, there is not much dan¬
ger of Houston county taking
niuch stock in any new party, n
matter how it is announced the
rest of Georgia s farmers will go.
There are many strong
men in this county who say they
will withdraw from the order be
fore they will aid in the success of
any new party, but will do all in
their power to keep the democratic
party pre-eminent.

INJURED BY WOLVES.
One Hundred Men Engage in a Hunt
and Many are Hurt.
Boise City. Idaho, March 22.—
In the hills fifteen miles north of
Boise City this morning one hun¬
dred miners and stockmen en¬
gaged in a wolf hunt. It was a
great success from every point of
view, eleven wolves being killed
and nine men more or less se
rionsly injured. The wolves were
in one pack, snugly ensconced in
a small cave. They were driven
out by hounds sent into their
dark retreat, but they killed four
fine dogs before they issued forth.
The animals were wild with fear
and gaunt with hunger, and sev¬
eral old mountaineers advised the
hunters to shoot them first, but
their advice was not heeded, and
the chase was inaugurated. The
dogs soon caught one of the
wolves, a savage male. They
dragged him down, but he shook
them off and dashed back toward
the men. Joel Hardy was in his
path and it sprang at his throat
and badly injured him. The
shooting of the wolf saved Hardy's
life. A few minutes later the
dogs killed two of the wolves,
though not before the hunted ani
mats had bitten Bill Spreckles,
James Gilsey and Q. 1. Ander
son. The leader ot the pact
wolves was a big black , male , with ...
tremendous fangs.
The dogs cornered it and Hank
Marston and a man named Pieffer
ran u p to shoot it. The wolf
sprang over the heads of the dogs,
fastening its teetli in Marston's
arm and nearly bit the member
off. A second later it left
ton and attacked Uieffer, who had
managed to get in a shot while
the beast was biting Marston.
The wolf badly lacerated Uieffer's
right breast before it succumbed
The men now became more wary,
but the dogs were as savage as
ever. A wolf blinded one hound,
and by mistake the dog bit a boy
named Dolan. Before the
maining wolves were killed two
other men were slightly wounded
J by the wolves, who seemed to
prefer fighting to running. Of
the men bitten by the wolves and
the dogs all will recover, unless
hydrophobia results. The miners
and stockmen will hunt no more
wolves.

Oranges of Marlon County Hart
Fully 50 per cent.
Ocalla, Fla., March 26—W.
Nelson of Goodman, Miss , arrived
here last night to look after his
orange grove in Citrus county,
which is the fruit of his home
steading ICO acres of land,- some
six vears ago, beside making a
neat little fortune in disposing of
120 acres of that same homestead
to persons in quest of phosphate
lands, while his neighbor and
friend, Col. Mitchell of Mississippi,
who homesteaded eighty acres
when he did, and sold it for $25,
375, has satisfied Mr. Nelson that
Florida is a splendid state to emi¬
grate to.
G. R. Sangster of Moncton, New
Brunswick, who sold a grove last
year to the Rockefeller-Oolgate
Hoyt syndicate for $100,000, in
speaking of the orange iudustry
in Florida and its future said he
I knew of no industry in the United
States that its past history paid
belter profits on the money i»
vested than orange culture,
if he was a young man he would
again embark in it.
He said that while their citra
grove has only cost them $25,000,
for three years previous to selling
same it netted 10 per cent, on the
amount of money for which it was

“At last we are alone!”
The woman trembled and lifted
her eyes to his face.
The y were beautiful eyes, but
they were tremulous; eyes which

The echoes brought back in their
