deceiving the public.
Atlanta Constitution.
No newspaper can successfully
deceive the public. The people
may be deceived for a day, or for
sev eral days, but they invariably
discover that they are being im¬
posed upon in a very short while.
.1 ust now the only way for the
feather head organs to meet the
emphatic rebuke they are receiv¬
ing in all parts of Georgia, in the
action of the counties which are
sending anti-Cleveland delegations
day after day, is to assume a bold
attitude and endeavor to deceive
the public by claiming every¬
thing.
Of the counties which have act¬
ed to date, and of the thirty-six
deleg ites who have been elected,
not half a dozen votes will be re
Corded in favor of a Cleveland
de'egation to the Chicago conven¬
tion. Of the counties acting last
Tuesday we notice that Lee coun¬
ty is reported to have a Cleveland
delegation, and yesterday after
tom the announcement was again
made that its delegates are in fa¬
vor of Cleveland.
lion. W. D. Wells, representa¬
tive from Lee county, and one of
the delegates from that county to
the May convention, writes The
Constitution that the county meet¬
ing was decidedly for Hill, and
the delegates elected are outspok¬
en for him as against Cleveland,
believing that the nomination of
the latter would be dangerous and
destructive to the party success.
So it goes. The counties are
acting for Hill and the organs of
the everylasting candidate are
frantically claiming everything.
Georgia is overwhelmigly
against making such a deplorable
blunder a9 the nomination of
Cleveland would be, and the
democrates of the state are unhesi¬
tatingly putting themselves on re¬
cord accordingly. The Constitu¬
tion has information from the dele¬
gates of every county that has act¬
ed, and of the whole lot, only one
—Carroll—is for Cleveland.

SFJ1AT0K HILL Ti> THE FARMERS.
Brunswick Times.
In the splendid speech which
he delivered before the Mississippi
legislature, Senator Hill addressed
some stirring and true words to
the farmers. He congratulated
them warmly upon the great up¬
rising among them which gave
the democratic party its signal
victory and gave it such a tremen¬
dous majority in the national
house of representatives. I urther
Mr. Hill said these true words.
“Had the president’s official
term expired then our victory had
been as complete as it is over¬
whelming, but his term had two
more years to run, and therefore
two victories were indispensable
to do the work of one. Ihe last
citadel of republican power stands
now at the mercy of our united
assault. Is this the time to divide
our forces? Is this the time for
the army of the farmers’ alliance
in any state to renounce copera
lion with the democratic hosts of
states? Is this the time to divide
and and split?
Gentlemen, it it is madness.
Once more to the breach, my
friends, all together just once
more.”
Senator Hill has the correct
view of the matter. The demo
eratic party is the farmer's friend
It is the advocate of the very re¬
forms in government and legisla¬
tion which they need. It is near
victory. If the farmers stand by
it, it will secure control of both
the executive and legislative bran¬
dies of the government at the
next election. If, however, the
turn away from the democratic
party they may defeat its success
and will gain nothing for them¬
selves.
The third party platform differs
widely from the Ocala platform,
and i9 not binding, even remotely,
upon members of the alliance,
Nor will it be the platform of
people's party unless it is ratified
and adopted by the Omaha con
vention. While it contains some
good democratic doctrine, there
are some planks and so-called
“resolutions” in it that ought to
nauseate every white man in the
south.—Gainsville Eagle.
Beware of Ointments for Cu

as mercury will surely destroy the
sense of smell and completely de
range the whole system when en
tering it through the mucous sur
faces. Such articles should never
be used except on prescrintions
from reputable physicians, as the
damage they will do is ten fold to
the good you can possibly derive
from them. Hall’s Catarrh Cure,

Tll-c. FORCE BILL.
Atlanta Herald*
Have the people of the south so
soon forgotten the force bill?
If so, the result in Rhode Island
yesterday should bring them to
their senses.
The rebublicans have swept
that little state in spite of the ef¬
forts of the democratic leaders.
They have followed Reed rather
than Cleveland, anl the voice
of Rhode Island is for the old
ideas and old ways of the repub¬
lican party.
There is no telling how soon the
force bill will again be an issue,
and tne south can protect herself
only by remaining solid. The con
ditions put upon the people of this
section still demand a solid south,
for the republican party still lives
to further harrass and oppress the
southern people.
The time for division can never
come until the conditions change.
As long as the republican party
is here to stir np sectional hate
and to fire the hearts of the igno¬
rant blacks, the white men of the
south should stand in an unbroken
column for the protection of their
homes and their property.
Let us have harmony.

IT IS FREE WOOL.
Trie Vote Stood J92 Years to GO
Nays.
Washington April 7.—The
wool bill passed the house to-day
and this congress is far ahead of
any previous one in the transmis
sion of business.
Indeed. Speaker Crisp and his i
lieutenants have made this a i
house of business. The wool bill
passed by the greatest majority
ever given a tariff bill. The vote
was m tom, an I when that was
disposed ot and ready to go to the
senate. Mr. Turner’s bill to place
co*ton ties was immediately taken
up. That is now under discussion
and will be adopted within a day
or t wo, perhaps to-morrow.
The passage of the wool bill
comes a month and a half ahead
of the McKinley bill in the
congress and three months and a
half ahead of the Mills bill in the
fiftieth— a record that Speaker

Let’s reason together. Here’s
a firm, one ot the largest the coun¬
try over, the world over; it has
grown, step by step, through the
years to greatness—and it sells
patent medicines!—ugh!
“That’s enough!”—
Wait a little—
This firm pays the newspapers
good money (expensive
this advertising!) to tell the peo
p ] e that they have faith in what
they sell, so much faith that if they
ca!1 t benefit or cure they
don't want your money. Their
g Uaran tee is not indefinite and
relative, but definite and
—if the medicine doesn't
your money is “on call.”
Suppose every sick man and
feeble woman tried these medi¬
cines and found them worthless,
who w r ould be the loser, you or
they?
