The Home of Mr. H. S Harper, of

During the temporary absence
of tlie family from the house, two
negro nnm entered the dwell ing of
Mr. H. S. Harper, who lives near
Dempsey, in this county, on Mon¬
day after noon last, and stole
therefrom some clothing a watch,
some cooked victuals, and perhaps
other things.
Mr. Rufus Lupo, who happened
to be passing, saw the negroes
leave the house and so informed
Mi . Harper, who was at work near
by. A search was instituted and
the men were discovered and
by Messrs. Harper and
Lupo. The negroes seeing that
I- were after them, turned aud
at long range at Harper and
Lupo, without effect, however,
succeeded in giving their pur
the dodge.
The sheriff was notified and he
wired Jesup, and two negroes were
at that place, who were
found on a freight train. Slier
iff Rogers was notified and
went down to Jesup Monday night,
returning with the prisoners Tues
day, ancf lodged them in jail. Air.
Harper was here and saw the ne
groes, but was unable to identify
them, as he had seen the two
that entered his premises only at
a distance, and thus the matter
stands at this writing (Tuesday)- for
Other parties have been sent
who saw and talked with these
groes before they entered Mr. Har¬

be able to identify them, if they
are parties wanted.
