The Fall term of the Eastman
Institute closed on Friday after
noon and the pupils vacation. are now en
joying their Xmas

Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Brown, who
have for some time had charge of
the Gentry house at this place,

Misses Georgia and Nellie Lewis,
of Milan, visited the families of
Sheriff J. C. Rogers and Hon. J.
W. Bohannon last week. They
are daughters of Mr. I. N. Lewis.
Dr. Floyd W. McRae, one of
Atlanta’s most prominent physi¬
cians is visiting his brother and sis¬
ters, Mr. Geo. McRae and Mes
dames Wynne and Meadows.
Mr. Absalon Batchelor has re¬
turned to Eastman from an extend¬
ed visit to relatives and Iriends in
Gwinett county, His many
friends are glad to see him back.
Mr. J. M. Sapp has been appoin¬
ted marshal in place -ot Mr. Robt.
Carnes, resigned. Tins appoint¬
ment gives general satisfaction

Mr. John Mozo left Tuesday
for St. Simons, where he has ac¬
cepted a responsible position at
Dodge’s big saw mill. John is a
•clever, industrious young man,

bliss Lizzie Leitch is at home
again after an extended visit to
relatives at Tucker, Ga., DeKalb
county. Miss Lizzie Leitch is a
favorite among the young people,
and she has been greatly missed
front their circle during her ab¬
sence.
Mr. Ernest E. Edwards left us
Monday for his old home at Lake
City, Fla., where we understand
he will remain permanently. Mr.
Edwards has lived in Eastman for
several years and no young man
in the town was held in more high
esteem than he. We
regret his departure and trust
that lie may yet decide to return
to Eastman and make it his
home.

General Presentments of the Grand
Jury for November Term, 1st) 1 ,), of
Dodge County Superior Court.
We, the grand jury selected,
chosen and sworn at the Novem¬
ber term of Dodge county superior
court, beg leave to submit the fol¬
lowing general presentments:
Resolved, That we, thegrand ju¬
rors selected arid sworn to serve
at the November term 1899 of the
Superior court of Dodge county,
hereby recommend and request
the appointment of James Bishop,
Jr., Esq., to be judge of the City
court of Eastman,knowing him to
be the choice of a large majority
of the people of said county.
We, the grand jury of Dodge
county, being informed that C.
Wooten Griffin, Esq., is an appli¬
cant for the solicitorship of the
Citv court of Eastman.
Therefore,be it resolved that we
hereby heartily indorse the candi¬
dacy of Mr. Griffin, and respect¬
fully urge his appointment, and
that a copy of these resolutions be
forwarded the governor. Th s

We have examined the books
of all the J. P. and notaries pub
lie and find them all correctly
and neatly kept, except those of
the Justice for the 389th district.
In two cases on his docket he has
failed to itemize costs and sign
judgment rendered.
\Ve recommend that jurors and
bailiffs be paid $2.00 per day for
the ensuing year.
We have examined all thebridg
es and roads and find them all m
fine condition, except the follow
ing: Bridge across sugar creek : t
Chauncey, bridge across cypress
creek on river road and bridge
across cypress creek on Eastman
and Rhine road all in need of
pairs. We find that the ordinary
has paid out some funds for
on Parkersou and Sheffield bridges
while parties are under bond' to
keepthem repaired. We recommend
that the ofdiuary proceed at once
to collect said amounts paid
from said bondsmen. We recom
mend that the commissioners in
Chauncey district be required to
look after the road*? under their
jurisdiction at once, also on the
r-oad from Eastman to Rhine. We
find some work needed on
from Eastman to Chauncey, ft
bridge just below Mr. Pauls
is in a bad condition.
We found the poor bouse in
mates nicely cared for and a plea

The South Georgia Conference.
The annual session of the South
Georgia Conference closed in Dub¬
lin Sunday night, The meeting
was a most pleasant one and the
good people of Dublin again dom
oustated their hospitality in a way
that will never be forgotten by
their visitors.

An important real estate deal
took place in our town Tuesday
between Rev. R. D. Gentry and
Mr. C. W. Rawlins, in which the
Gentry Hotel was transferred to
I j Mr. Rawlins in exchange for an
amount of cash and the lot and
residence now occupied by Mr.
Rawlins. Mr. Rawlins and fami¬
ly' will move into the hotel build¬
ing in a few days, but will use it
o.nly as a residence. The hot<d
and boarding house feature will
not be in any wise continue 1.
