Heretofore, at the request of the members, we have refrained from saying a great deal about Eastman’s new Military Company, as they desired to be sure of a success before announcing to the world that an effort was being made. W. Griffin was made Captain, Mr. C. C. Burch and Mr. Jesse Rogers First and Second Lieutenants respectively. The vote was unanimous. The company has been assigned to the 2nd Regiment Infantry, Volunteers, commanded by Col. Chas. M. Wiley, of Macon, and is designated as Co., “M.” It is proposed to place the com¬ pany in a batahon with the com¬ panies at Hawkinsville, Dublin and Sandersville. This we think a splendid arrangement, The members are enthusiastic and pro¬ pose to make company “M” the best in the regiment. They meet every Thursday night for drill, The guns and equipment will i arrive about January first and ; then Die company will lie in shape for active service if needed. EASTMAN, GA., DECEAIBER 21, 1899. C0MUIMCATE1). Mr. Editor.—Rlerse allow me space enough in vour valuable pa¬ per to make a few suggestions to the good citizens of our city, As all are aware we are about to be calk'd upon to decide who shall govern or misgovern our city affairs for next year. It is of great importance that we elect good men for that purpose, men who will work for the mural up lmilding of our city. As to what the present Council lias done I will not say. What they have failed to do, one has only to go upon our 'streets any day to see, especially Saturday to set* men under the influence of liquor, and see gambling not only upon the streets but in some of the business houses. Where do these men get tiieir liquor? We are Id t at it is sold in E -J man. W v is it allowed? W cause the Mayor and Council will not agree to stop it. 1 contend that it can he stopped whenever we get a Mayor and Council who are elected upon this issue, we will seethe law enforced but not until then can we expect to see our town what it should be. It will depend in a great meas ure upon who the citizens of Eastman elect for Mayor and Council next year whether Dodge County will be allowed to sell liquor or not. of Eastman It the good citizens s t still and take no active part in the election of our next city offi cials, we may expect to|see iinmor ality increase and our town to suffer. 11 unite and work, pray and vote for the upbuilding of the morals of our town and lect good men who have courage and determination, who will see that the law is enforcen. V hen - vv do Du-' we nr but y epp-efc untif to "" city prosper not we do will we see any improvement in our city government. Citizen. ------ - a Serious Ruimwaj.
