HIS< EOANKW S PARAGRAPHS. The author of “Tlic Vagabonds ” Whiskey. The favorite hymn of the grasshopper* —“This wheat by nnd by.” Why is a newly-born baby like n gale of wind ’/ Because it begins with a squall. Brigham Young it is suggested, should write a hook on how to pop the question. The average female wears a number three shoe, and one woman in every five is pigeon toed. A man who wanted to he a minister said he believed he was called to labor in the Lord's barnyard. Peru's population is declining. The de cline is said to he due to earthquakes, civil war and brandy, particularly brandy. He went to Texas to seek his fortune nnd now telegraphs to his father: “Bring in another fatted calf,” and an orido ring.” Blue glass has achieved another triumph. It cured a hook agent of lock jaw. but it was ns pale as a ghost when it got through. I)om Pedro said he found only one thor oughly truthful paper in America. Thanks, lie has been a subscriber to this paper for two years. That was a fearful joke of Lord \<r bury's on sentencing to death a thief who had stolen a w atch : “ You made a grasp at time, my lad, hut you clutched eternity.” A lady, stepping into a railway car. said toher little son: “Ain't you going to kiss your mother before yon goP” The little rogue couldu.t wait and called out. “ Conductor, won't you kiss mother for me P” “ I)o you think your father is going to move out soon V" inquired the owner of a rented house of the son of the tenant. “ I reckon so,” was the reply. “ we have be gun using the winder frames for fire wood ?” A friend says that the first thing <h;.t turned his r. trillion to ma rumny, w; the neat nnd skillful manner in which a pretty girl handled a broom. He may see the time when the manner in wlrch thai, broom is handled will noi. afford him so much sat isfaction. A witly writer has observed, with much truth, that every man in a sense is three different men. In the first place he is the man he thinks himself to be; in the second place, he is the man other persons think him to he and finally he is the man that he really is. That Nasal Twang, it is Catarrh; cure it at once, before it shows on your face, by I)r. .J. 11. McLean's Catarrh Snuff. It soothes irritation, cures Sores in the nose, face or skin. Trial boxes f>() cents, by mail. Dr. J. IT. McLean, 314 Chest nut street, St. Louis, Mo. “I tell you .sir,” said Dr. one day to the village apothecary, "I tell you, sir, the t'o.c populi should not, must not, be disregarded.’* " What, doctor!" exclaim ed the apothecary, rubbing his hands, "yon don’t say that's broken out in town, too, has it?" The Lord helps us !’’ The first letter sent by a gushing student from Athens home to his sire encouraged him. and he thinks that his son will be a Justice of the Peace some day. Here it is : "Pater, Cani lonesome moro stumpsent to me? Ego snenthe lastsent. damyeye. Et lu brute. Thus studious bores, Johannes. The terrible fires which recently devas tated the northern part of New York are not the only disaster visited upon that afflicted State lately. Two hundred and sixty-four lawyers were graduated at Col umbia College, and turned loose hungry upon the community last week.— 1 Vann ington Star. A clergyman was preparing his discourse for Sunday, stopped occasionally to review what lie had written and to erase that which lie disapproved, when he was ac costed by his little son, who numbered but live summers : " Father, does God tell you what (o preach?" " Certainly, my child." "Then what makes you scratch it out?" “Mamma.** said a little fivc-vear-obl. " what is a widow and what is a widower?" J r l he mother e:;plained to the little fellow, and by way of further explanation, su'd : "If you should grow up and get married, and vour wife should die. why then von would be a widower." " Oh. no, 1 wou'd not,” said the little fellow. "I’d court another girl." An editor in Illinois, having engaged a new reporter, received the following as his first effort : " We are informed that the man hoo stood on his head under a pile driver for the purpose of having a tight pair of bates druv on, shortly afterward found himself in Chiny, perfectly naked and without a cent in his pocket.” A man noted for his close-fisted propen sities was showing an old coin to a neigh bor, when the latter asked. "Where did you get it!’’ " 1 dug it out of my garden." was the reply. "It is a pity you didn’t find it in the cemetery," said the neighbor. " Why so," asked the coin owner. “ Be cause you could have saved the hole to be buried in,” was the somewhat unexpected reply. "Fellow-sinners," saida preacher, "if yon were told that by going to the top of those stairs yonder (pointing to a rickety pair of stairs at one end of the church) you might secure your eternal salvation, l really believe hardly any of you would try it. But let any man proclaim that there were a hundred dollars up there for you, and I*ll be bound there would be such a getting up stairs as you never did see." In his speech at Due West last week Rev. Mr. Kuhns compared the dandies to the cinnamon tree whose bark is more val uable than its body. This is true and the evidence of it may tie seen on our streets almost any day. These fancy fellows who wear line clothes, put on style and try to look rich form a very unimportant factor in this workday world. They are of no use to any community but somehow almost every community has some of these. We have seen a broadcloth coat many a time hide a very hollow heart and a silk beaver perched on top of many an empty head.— Abbeville Medium. Ailicrkllkluy; Italc-M.
