A Nlrwy Flower.
Swoft little runaway rover
Where have you wandered to-day?
Search in the wheat and the clover—
Look in the billowy hay !
Left all alone is your dolly;
Playmates are shouting your name;
Kitty is quite melancholly,
Towscr is somewhat the same !
Sav. are you watching the cricket?
Watching the clambering bee?
Though in the morning you pick it
Never bud fairer than she !
Have you a nook nice and sunny,
Deep in the grass and the fern ?
Telling a storv so funny,
None but the grasshoppers learn?
Ah ! here's the print of a slipper,
Leading down into the doll;
Know r it, as well as a skipper,
Homeward bound, hnrbor can tell !
Peep ! there you are little gypsy,
There in the bloom all alone !
Oh, the sweet kiss on your lip— see !
Sec ! how I'll steal it. my own !

It was an action for breach-of-promise,
and the defense was the prospect of too
much mother-in-law.
The Judge inquired if the mother pro
posed living with her daughter after mar
riage, and, receiving an affirmative answer,
asked the defendant whether he would
rather live w ith his mother-in-law or pay
S2OO.
** Pay 8200,” was the prompt reply.
Said the Judge:
” Young man, let me shake hands with
you. There was a time in my life when I
was in the same situation as you are in
now. Ilad 1 possessed your firmness I
•should have been spared twenty-live years
of trouble. 1 had the alternative of marry
ing or paying 8125. Being poor. I married,
and for twenty-five years have I regretted
it. lam happy to meet with a man of your
stamp. The plaintiff must pay 810 and
costs for having thought of putting a gen
tleman under the dominion of a mother-in
law.”— Puck.

Mrs. Morris, a woman Justice of the
Pence in Wyoming Territory, heard a case
of scandalous character, in which her hus
band was defendant. She sentenced him
to be hanged by the neck until dead, and
was anxious to have the sentence carried
into effect at once, until the attorneys ex
plained to her that she was sitting simply
as an examining court. She then held him
in bonds of $18,000,000 to await the action
of the Grand Jury, and said she would
shoot the first man that attempted to raise
the sureties.
A I'rlrnil'n 4'ril irlsm.
The Los Angeles, California Herald
says : 44 One of the huinerous sidelights
of the campaign reaches us by the way of
Anaheim. A speaker of the Democratic
rally was making a few remarks on the
personnel of the Republican candidates.)
One of the gentlemen discussed happened
to be there with his wife. The latter was
very restive at the references to her hus
band. She plucked him by the sleeve and
asked him why he didn’t get up and answer
the speaker. ‘ Pshaw, my dear,’ said he,
4 it is a friend if mine that is talking now.
Wait till you hear one of my enemies.”
The New York papers are jubilant over
the prospects of trade revival and the in
auguration of better times. The various
hotels, especially those in the business por
tion of the city, are represented as being
overflowing with guests, business men from
the South and West, who, emboldened by
good crops and a promising outlook, arc
again venturing into the long deserted
marts of trade. Regarding a revival of
manufactures, the New York Sun. speak
ing of Newark, New Jersey, the third man
ufacturing city in America, says : 44 Cus
tomers from the South arc sending in large
orders for all kinds of goods, and the man
ufactures are confident that Newark will
have a more extensive Southern trade than
she had before the war. The Western and
Eastern dealers are also ordering largely,
particularly the latter. The principal call
is for low-priced goods.”
When a Bulgarian male child is born it
has a salt bath. From that time to his
seventh year he is not washed under pain
of mortal sin. A Bulgarian female is al
lowed only one washing during her life
time. 'Phis is according to church discip
line. The correspondent of the New York
Times at Russian headquarters declares
that their filth is only surpassed by their
cowardice. No wonder the cleanly Turk
despises them and their so-called religion.

Ayer’s Cure,
For Fever and Ague, Intermittent Fever,
Chill Fever, Remittent Fever, Dumb Ague.
Periodical or Bilious Fever, &c., and indeed
all the affections which arise from malari
ous, marsh, or miasmatic poisons.
This is a compound remedy, prepared with
scientific skill from vegetable ingredients, which
rarely fails to cure the severest casc3 of Chill*
anil Fever and the concomitant disorders. Such
a remedy the necessities of the people in mala
rious districts demand. Its great superiority
over any other medicine yet discovered for the
cure of Intermittents is, that it contains no qui
nine or mineral, and those who take it are free
from danger of quinism or any injurious effects,
and are as healthy after using it as before. It
lias been extensively employed during the last
thirty years in the treatment of these distressing
disorders, and so unvarying lias been its success
that it has gained the reputation of being infal
lible. It can, therefore, be safely recommended
as a sure remedy and specific for the Fever and
Ague of the West, and the Chills and Fever of
the South. It counteracts the miasmatic poison
In the blood, and frees the system from its influ
ence, so that fever and ague, shakes or chills,
once broken up by it, do not return until the
disease is again contracted.
The great variety of disorders which arise from
the irritation of this poison, such as Nenralgin,
Rheumatism, Gout, Headache, Blindness,
Toothache, Earache, Catarrh, Asthma, Pal
pitation, Splenic Affections, Hysterics, Pain
in the Bowels, Colic, Paralysis, and derange
of the Stomach, all of which become intermit
tent or periodical, have no speedier remedy than
Ayer’s Ague Cuke, which cures them all alike,
and protects the system from future attacks. As
a preventive, it is of immense service in those
communities where Fever and Ague prevails, as
it stays the development of the disease if taken
on the first appronch of the premonitory symp
toms. Travellers and temporary residents arc
thus enabled to defy these disorders, and few
will ever suffer if they avail themselves of the
protection this remedy affords.
For Livor Complaints, arising from torpidity,
it is an excellent remedy; it stimulates this organ
into healthy activity, and produces many remark
able cures where other medicines fail.
