For Senator of the 81§t District.
There is considerable log rolling at work
to defeat the candidate for Senator from
this District, to wit: F, B. Hodges, who
wag run and elected at the primary elec
tion held in this county; but this op
position we do not think is the work of any
organization, but is mainly the efforts of
one Reverend Thomas Crymes, the editor
of the Toccoa Herald.
Since the war. the rotation system has
been followed with honesty and faithful
ics in this District—Habersham and
Franklin counties having had six years
jach. whilst Hart has only had three. Now.
;t is time for our County ; and if the rota
tion aystem is undesirable, we think it a vio
lation, of all law and good sense and justice
; to abandon it at this time, as she has gone
ahead and placed her candidate in the field,
only asking her rights, which justly
When Ilnrt shall have a candidate, and
the year IKHO rolls around, and then it is
the wiah of the people of the District to
aliandon it, why then there will be no harm
in such a course; and we dou't know but
we may be in favor of it then.
We cannot sec that the good people of
Franklin and Habersham would have such
bad feelings towards our County, as to
hare any idea of voting for a self constitu
ted candidate, who has his business in Too
coa city, lives in Franklin, and preaches all
over the District.
That Brother t’rynics is a good man, we
do not deny, but lie is getting his business
badly mixed. The idea of a .God-fearing
man. a man of three D's—a Doctor of Di
vinity, running a patent-back newspaper,
then dispensing the word of God from the
pulpit on every Sabbath, and then, with all
that, endeavoring to disorganize all our
system of harmony, and the system of ro
tation. which one more time belongs to the
county of Hart, endeavoring to bull-doze
the people of the District, to vote for him.
as Senator, we think is the height of pre
sumption, and he can only come to grief by
such a course.
We are afraid lie is-n jack-of-nll-trndcs.
and will succeed at none ; and the quicker
he hauls in his sign, the better for his par
ishoners. He must serve God or the devil,
and we have no objection to his running a
paper, but when lie adds another calling on
that, we arc afraid the balances are on the
wrong side, and the result can easily be
foretold.
Citizens of Franklin and Habersham, we
call on you in the name of justice, and all
that is right and fair, not to allow such an
imposition and stain to fall on your Coun
ties. which would certainly bo the case
were you to elect Brother Cr vines.
Let justice be dene, and if in 1880 you
wish to abandon the system of rotation,
our County will have nothing to say against
it. “A.”
