Special DDpatck to the Andcrton IntMigenerr.
Columbia, S. C., Dec. 11.
Gov. Hampton was unanimously
elected in tbc Senate, anti received all
the votes cast in the House except two
Radical negroes from Beaufort, on yes
terday for the position of United States
Senator, to succeed Patterson ou the
4th of next March. The election was
declared to day in joint assembly. It
was a splendid, though deserved, trib
ute to our Governor.
On yesterday at 12 o’clock, while the
election for Senator was progressing,
the surgeons amputated (ov. Hamp
ton’s leg, taking it otr about six inches
below the knee. He stood the opera
tion well, and, though his condition is
critical, his friends are .hopeful of his
recovery.
