We arc innch gratified at the bright pros
pect fbr a large and flourishing school here
the preaent year. Kn rything'iß con verging
to that desirable end, and many induce
ment* are offered to parties dusiring tq ob
tain an education or to educate their chil
dren to patronize t}ic .school here. Since
the construction of the railroad to this
place parties nt a distance have ample fa
cilities for reaching Hartwell. The society
of Hartwell m excellent, and a high moral
tone prevails. The healthfulness of the lo
cality cannot be surpassed. The teachers
in charge of the Academy have proven
thcmaelves the right meli hi the right place,
and we venture to say that none who pa
tronize the Mchool will be disappointed at
the proficiency of the pupils. And last,
and yet a matter tbai is of some impor
tance in these stringent times, board can
be obtained on extremely moderate terms.
In view of these advantages, briefly men
tioned, we see no reason why we will not
have the largest school the present year
that we have ever had before, and from tin
present outlook, we are sure to have it.
Oi'a political nature there is nothing
new or stirring this week to report. When
anything occurs worth mailing we will
give it to our readers.

A correspondent -of the Meriwether

relics. Mr. John Brown has an anvil and
bellows that were hid from the Tories in
the Revolutionary War. These artielysi
are still good and in use yet. Mr. Brown
also has a chop-axe that has been used for
150 years; also n chair with its first bot
tom that lias been in constant use 160
years. The bottom is made ot rawhide,
and is still well preserved. Mr. Brown's
shovel ami tongs have been in constant
service for 57 years, and are good Id list
as many more. Bob Puckett, of Pike
county, has a dinner pot that he says is
400 years old.
